I have extensively studied numerous books on hacking, and while I acknowledge the authors' brilliance, I sense a reluctance on their part to fully disclose their knowledge.

Totally agree. If you took just 1 year studying network basics, infosec processes, encryption methods, basic hardware and OS, security policies, basic linux, basic programming, this book will feel like a waste of time.

I think the title is self-explanatory. It's more of an introduction to Linux with some fun hacking examples. It's a great book if you want a fun way to learn Linux.
I dont know why people think they will be Mr Robot with said book title. It's not called "Advanced Hacking for Linux Experts" lol

I read first 3 chapters. Unfortunately could not move forward. Faced difficulties running some commands. E.g. could not install snort; had to download it, as it is no longer included in Kali. The 'sed' command had problems too.
But honestly, for hacking purpose this book is the best out there. I wish OTW would release 2nd ed. asap

I have read the first few chapters of this book but had a few difficulties due to outdated info. For example, you are not the root user now and accessing or installing things is not possible. (I later discovered through a course what sudo means). In addition, for me personally, I can not find a way to use the "pipe" command without copy and pasating. My macbook has a Spanish keyboard and despite changing the settings in kali, I can't figure out how to use pipe - (altough it works just fine in bash in the Mac Terminal). I like the book, but wish it was a 2023 version.

I would argue the fact that because this book is outdated makes it better. From what I’ve read of it you can still do everything albeit maybe in a different way. Part of being a hacker is problem solving. Python scripts in the book outdated? Hop on Google and figure out how to do it in Python 3 🤷‍♂️

This book is just an initiation to the world of hacking for new comers because there is no way we can learn everything about linux, networking & programming in just one place. The author himself is aware of that and he advices everybody to learn more about all these technoilogies after finishing his book.

Thanks for the nice review and some heads up about some issues with the content as I plan to pick it up soon.
I just hope it's enough to hack my girlfriends instagram....just kidding, couldn't resist lol, but jokes aside I truly hope it will get me familiarized with Linux and especially Kali because I haven't used much Linux in years and last time I booted up Kali it was still called Backtrack 4 hahaha.
