Armenia and Azerbaijan: all quiet on the legal front | How We Got Here

After months of violent clashes and fighting, Armenia and Azerbaijan may be forced to resolve their problems in court.

In a recent speech, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Armenia must change its constitution in order for a peace treaty between the two countries to be signed.

Aliyev reiterated his earlier claims that the Armenian constitution contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan, despite repeated and categorical statements by the Armenian authorities that Armenia holds no such claims against any neighbor.

Is there any chance of a stable peace between these two foes? How far back does the history of the conflict between these two countries go? Can the international court resolve the territorial disputes once and for all?

For answers to these and other questions, join Jan Darasz and his guest: Konrad Zasztowt - Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Warsaw in this episode of How We Got Here.

This guy is talking a load of **** . Armenians didn’t settle into Artsakh from perisa or turkey - Armenians living in Artsakh for centuries. Think this guy learnt his history at an azerbaijan “history” university

To know what the Armenians think of living with other ethnic groups side by side, just look at the ethnic make up of the population of the Republic of Armenia and compare it to Azerbaijan or Georgia ! Let the facts speak for themselves.

Armenia has more than 10000 years of history. azerbaijan has 106 years.

Azerbaijan isn’t even a real country. It’s a separatist movement from Iran that took over Armenian land. Armenians have lived in Ngorno Karabakh for millennia and the architecture from schools and churches outdates any Azeri claims. In 94 Azerbaijan signed a peace treaty with Ngorno Karabakh, they didn’t honor that peace treaty, so what makes Armenia think it will honor this present “peace negotiations”? Armenia should stop giving concessions and provisions to an evil snake like Aliyev.

Umm ummm ahhh ummm someone who speaks properly. I can hear this dude swallowing his saliva every 5 seconds. Come on dude this guy is not television worthy. Also whatever this man is saying everybody already knows this. He gave no insight about anything new. Please review the speakers speaking skills before inviting on an important topic.

There was not such thing as an “azerbaijani khanate “- there was only a persian khanate when the persians ruled over the region for a few centuries. The so-called state of “azerbaijan” was only created in 1918 by the russian empire - you will not find any real historic map before 1918 because azerb!cjan didn’t exist before that.
