I used to have a cat, Teddy, who was perfectly friendly and loving in every way. Except, he did a real number on one particular corner of my couch. My dad once asked me "Why do you allow him to do that?". I told him "Because I care more about Teddy than I do that couch".

I would never de-claw my cats.

Fortunately, this practice is illegal in Germany. I will never understand why people think getting a cat is a good idea when they are afraid of scratchmarks on furniture. Just don'T get a cat if you think your stuff is more important than your pet's healthy life.

There are also some people who decides that their cats need to go full vegetarian/vegan. Do they even know that cats need meat to survive?!

That is still done in America?! That is horrible!
In Finland, declawing, shortening a dog's tail or any "cosmetic" surgery on animals is forbidden by law and enforced and considered animal cruelty. Basically any surgery (other than spaying or neutering, which I consider vital myself) not vital to animal's health is cruelty to animals, and no vet does it without losing their licence/permit. Here those things were outlawed about 20 years ago. Before now, I did not know they were still legal in some western countries... People, have some sense and empathy, animals are not objects, they are not fashion statements or proof that you have a big d*ck. They feel pain and emotions and it is your responsibility to take care of your pet and make sure they are happy. Your pet can't take care of itself because has been bred to be dependant on humans.

You take a pet and no matter how difficult, you take care of it and do your best to make that animal happy until it dies of old age, because that is the responsibility of a pet ownwer.

It's forbidden here in Sweden and a couple of years ago I didn't even know that people could do this to their cats. I mean, this is the 21st century! It's barbaric!

Woah. I had no idea what declawing actually entailed and how bad declawing can actually be for cats. Two of our three cats were declawed. I had no say in it as I was four and nine at the time they were declawed, but if I'd known such information and been older, I would have insisted we not declaw them. They didn't show any negative side effects, thank goodness, but that doesn't mean it wasn't cruel to take away an integral part of them. Our third cat got to skip that particular hell because we couldn't afford to declaw him. It's worth the ripped up carpets and shredded chair legs to know that he's healthy and happy and still has all of his little kitty toes. It's not like our material goods are worth more than his health and happiness in the first place.

How can someone say they love a cat if it has to be physically modified to live with? It's rotten what some people do.

Do people not realize that cats scatch on things no matter what? Do these people that declaw their cats not know that they adopted a cat orr??

No matter how much you want a cat if multilating it is the price of giving it a home, choose mercy and find a pet you can live with that doesn't require a lifetime of suffering to gain your "love". Bless you Cole and Marmalde's humans for a much needed video as most people still don't know what declawing does to a cat.

This is such a cruel, inhumane, barbaric practice. I lost the tip of one finger in a door slamming accident, and it was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life, so I can only imagine what these poor cats go through.

Thank you for making this video. I am the 6th guardian of a declawed kitty. The declawing made her miserable and aggressive, so she got passed from home to home. I stepped in to finally give her the permanent, loving, tolerant home she needed. I get so mad hearing that vets still perform this barbaric surgery. Let's make it illegal!!

Thanks for this video. My boyfriend has been frustrated with our two new kittens clawing at things and suggested we de-claw them. I told him no in no uncertain terms and I'll be showing this to him to show him why it's bad. I would never want them to suffer like that.

I just read through the comment section, and it's amazing to me how many people didn't know how bad it was to declaw. Seriously? I mean, did they think it's the same as clipping your nails?

My cat Zira could ruin all the furniture in the house with her claws, I still wouldn't declaw her. I'd rather have a healthy cat and some scratched furniture instead of perfect furniture but a cat who's toes have been cut off for no reason.
Besides, it's not that hard to train a cat not to scratch the couch. Just make sure they have enough other stuff to dig their claws in.
