There have been some serious scandals that have hit the burger joint over the years, ranging from health concerns to poor treatment of employees. In some cases, the company has been taking strides to turn things around, but they seem to be dragging their feet on others. It’s probably no surprise that the burgers and fries aren’t exactly healthy, but it goes a lot deeper than that. As someone who used to work at Five Guys, some of these things did happen at my store:

1. This was my first job, they hired me right on the spot and I loved it. One of the big managers though was accused of sexual harassment and fired him. How do I know? Cause I was asked if he did anything "weird" to me. He complimented me on my eyes, maybe flirted with me but I was 16 and naive.

2. When they mentioned "labor laws." Yeah, I was a victim to that. I've worked 8 hours straight without a break before because it was busy and we were understaffed. They apologized but still. Mostly, it was working 4 or 6 hours without a break. And staying after I had just clocked out because they said I could but they forgot something or a line had formed. Then ask you to go get them food or something to drink (I became the errand girl) even though they're just sitting in the back. Yeah they're doing work on the computer but still. I was 16/17 working till 11 at the most on weekends and maybe a weeknight or two when I wasn't supposed to.

3. I went back during college and I wasn't getting any hours. There was an uptick at one point but then declined again. This was a problem with their scheduling system. New people got more hours than older people. This cause a fight between an employee and the general manager.

Food is great, management sucks. You make friends though and I miss the friends that worked there but I could be with such shitty management.

Most people have Five Guys at most 2 to 3 times a year, it won’t kill you. The Five Guys locations in the UK are very sparse too so McDonald’s is more of a factor when it comes to obesity than FG

I worked for five guys for a year back in 2014. They advertise their burgers as being better because the beef isn’t frozen and all the toppings for the burger are prepped fresh, daily as well. Not based on how healthy the burger is. Even though that wasn’t always the case at my store. But who wants to throw out perfectly good tomatoes when they’re just a day old? That’s a waste of food. And who in their right mind says to themselves, ‘What is something healthy I can eat tonight? Burgers and French fries!’ Obviously it’s going to be high in calories....

Even though they only pay minimum wage it was still a good company to work for. They’re just trying to mislead people in this video.

The first and last time I ate at Five Guys, the order was screwed up, the music was obnoxiously loud, environment dirty, dirty, dirty, and the food not that much better than any other burger place. Yes, the burgers were enormous but I couldn't wait to get out of that place.

Most of these seemed sensible until we got to the blind woman who sued them. I can't imagine how inconceivably difficult it is to make a website for a fast food restaurant accessible to the visually impaired. All the while still being visually appealing and functional for the vast majority of their customers who can see just fine.

I only go to 5-Guys is when my wife insists ... otherwise, I will choose something healthier and more cost effective! Two double cheese, drink, and fries for near $29?!?! I spent that much in Switzerland and thought it was outrageous ... but at least we were in Switzerland!

This was by far my least favorite fast-food job I ever had. Worked there about 8 or 9 years ago. Really ridiculous amount of prep work for a limited menu & fast-food restaurant. And the cleaning at night always took at least two hours. Inefficient practices at my particular location.
