The store I worked at a few years ago got busted by an auditor (basically guys who come in dressed as regular civilians, but work for the gov and are in charge of observing whether an establishment isn’t doing anything illegal. Like if they attempt to purchase alcohol / other regulated substances and you don’t ask them for ID, they write it down and inform your company.) One of my coworkers made the mistake of letting the woman in front of the auditor purchase alcohol with an expired ID. The next morning when the store manager checked the store email, he saw the audit report. The cashier who sold it ended up getting fired and the store got fined by the state.
