The best knife:

The one that does the job.
The one you trained with.
The one you kept with you.
The one you could afford.
The one that keeps you safe while you work.

Thanks for the vid, really enjoyed it!

I was a knife snob and thought cold steel was a gimmick. Then, , , , I discovered JOE X . and learned real quick cold steel is amazing.

I actually bought one of these SRK in CPM-3V when it was on sale from Midway and you made a notification post on YouTube. That was awesome man. I have a very nice collection of quality knives and the Cold Steel SRK has risen to the top of my favorite knives. I appreciate it so much I keep it my truck so that it is with me wherever I go. I intend to use it any chance I need it because I believe it is heavy duty. I have seen many videos where they criticize the sheath. I honestly don’t have a problem with the Cold Steel sheath, but I decided to have a custom kydex sheath made in multicam to upgrade the setup. Keep up the good work.

Speaking real life daily chores, a usable knife should cut and slice well. To do so a 2, 3, at most 4 millimetre of spine thickness is more than enough. Many people think the chubbier is better but real life has tasks for a knife demanding something else. The knife I have used the least in my arsenal is the useless pry bar Fallkniven A1 Pro.

Ps. I’m a fan of the 3v too

For ~ a decade the SRK has been a solid option. Steels have varied over the years, and that is important. Equally important though has been the heat treatment which CS has never skimped on. For the $$, the SRK is a solid option. Since I can't legally conceal carry a fixed blade in my state I have been using an SR1 in S35VN with the AD triad lock. Zero complaints as a medium duty camp knife paired with a bahco laplander (both are folding and legally concealable in my state)

Why would you not want the biggest and the best at that price???❤ 3v is a phenomenal steel. And at that price, a no brainer. I've got The Recon Scout in 3v as well. 3v being such a fine, fine grain structure can be made so much sharper than lesser steels. It's edge retention is legendary. Great review, Great product. Even better price.

Pomel is not a “show piece”!!!! It is used to hammer the blade into wood & not break the handles scales! Used in bushcraft & survival!!
A very desirable feature!

I have never seen that in CPM-3V for less than $250, been on the list for that for months, grats on finding one at any price.

CPM-3V is awesome. I know there are more modernized steels that are in higher demand lately, such as Magnacut, yet I keep cycling back to CPM-3V as my go-to for its well balanced properties. I am thrilled to see the price come down that low for such a high performance metal. I have a Cold Steel Master Hunter, which has the same style of rubberized, fully-encased handle. It's perfect for cold weather months and in complete agreement of your endorsement. Thanks so much for the video!

Thanks again. Great report, detail, and savings.

Thanks for the heads up. I grabbed one at Midway for a great price. I personally love 3V and for $109 is a steal!

The rubber handle in my opinion totally disqualifies as the best survival knife. It is a fine knife indeed but rubber makes it vulnerable. A knife is not only the steel it is made of. 3V is awesome and tough but the handle is weak.

Having an exposed tang is definitely a plus. You can use it to crush various things or crack nuts, etc. You can also sharpen some tangs and use it to strike a ferro rod. You said a knife should have maximum flexibility and then you turn around and say who needs an exposed tang! I have the SRK with SK5 and wish it had an exposed tang. Mine cost $38!

I 100% agree. CPM 3V is 25 years old and it is still considered by many to be in the top 3, 5, and 10 best all-around knife steels. If heat treated by a reputable, mindful knife maker, that is. Blade length is also important if you only have 1 knife to use against large dangerous predators.

Can you please put a link where you can buy it for that price? Cuz in Europe at least I couldn't find it cheaper than 200€

Pommel on end of knife is highly useful. Case in point, say you are making "cabin notch's" to build a shelter. You would cross baton the two widths then use the "pommel end" to pound sideways through the wood to make deep notch's to assemble your shelter!!!!
Second in relation to INFI steel, INFI is "SOFT" it will not chip or roll!!! CPM 3V is "hard" it will chip badly when faced with impact! INFI is easier to sharpen!
I have both INFI & CPM 3V. 3V will sharpen to razor sharp edge & cuts fantastic!!! But in a survival situation INFI is what I'll bet my life on!!

I love my SRK. I just wish it had an exposed tang like my fallkniven A1

That truly is exceptional value. CPM3V at that price. Way cheaper than a Fallkniven A1 and I suspect better steel. I picked up an A1 2nd hand last year. They cost $500NZ over here new but I got one at half price (and it wasn’t even a Chinese copy! 😂) good knife though
