I've gone and left masking tape on models for weeks if not months and when that happens what I'll do is use a fresh piece of masking tape to remove the residue from the old piece.

cool how-to video, but watch out using ammonia/windex it will remove some kinds of paint. Always best to test where it doesn't show.

50% alcohol on a q-tip or Tamiya craft swab. Don't use the 70% or 91% alcohol, in my experience those 2 will dull the finish.
