With a slide, if you slide around the pick-ups and pick the strings you can get a really cool bird chirping sound too! With some Reverb and/or Delay it can be very musical too!

PS: if you don't have a slide or don't want to carry one for ONE specific trick, you can use a standard Bic lighter for the same effect

I found the best way to make church bells with my 0.10 strings in D standard tuning is to put the 2nd and 3rd strings (A and F) over on each other (with no pick in between required) on the 7th fret and pick the 2nd string (in this case A), as close as you can pick from the bridge end.
