"We've always been committed to Matter interoperability principles, and based on user feedback to the Hub M3, we have expanded connectivity to more third-party Matter devices. Following the standard Matter protocol, the Hub M3 now supports these Matter-compatible device types:
- Contact Sensor
- Occupancy Sensor
- Light Sensor
- On/Off Light (Wall) Switch
- Dimmer (Wall) Switch
- Thermostat
- On/Off (Smart) Plug
- Matter Bridge

Due to limited resources, we haven't tested all third-party Matter devices, and as third-party support is still a "lab feature", interoperability issues may arise. Nonetheless, by broadening Matter connectivity, we aim to offer users greater choice in crafting their ideal smart home. Our engineers continue to work on extending the M3's support to additional device types via Matter, and please stay tuned for further updates. "

I don’t think any hub should be able to advertise itself as supporting Zigbee (or Matter) if it does not support third party devices that meet that standard. In fact I suspect in my country Australia that would be considered false & misleading conduct.

Current tech company product sales process.

1. Promise a ton of features of an upcoming product.
2. Deliver product without all of the features promised and make early adopters beta testers.
3. Wait for testers/users to complain about missing features.
4. Put out statement regarding product and missing features.
5. Let years go by without making any real changes.
6. Discontinue product or go out of business possibly without ever adding features that were initially promised years ago.

Happy with Home Assistant Yellow and HomeKit. Glad I saw this. In fact I think I’m done with Zigbee. Matter & ESP devices are there for what I need. But I’ll see if that sticks long term.

This one is definitely going in the right direction and maybe a worthy upgrade over the M2, but there are a lot of caveats which doesn't instill a ton of confidence. Happy to see a louder speaker though!

Companies are consistently releasing unfinished products with promises of firware updates. I completely agree that it's ridiculous to say it supports 3rd party Matter over Thread devices with a fine print of "coming soon". Just wait till the product is finished before it's released. It's that simple and that goes for numerous companies.

I wish it could also do RF, then it could also replace my Bond Bridge which I use to integrate my ceiling fans into Homekit (via Bond+Homebridge)

Just bought a M3 in Prime Days and so far so good. I did not set-up Matter as I only run Apple Home. I replaced one of my M2 hubs to get local control as even the basic Aqara automations on the M2s were slow to act. The M3 is vastly faster. Might pick up another to replace my other M2 but so far it’s not needed as the M3 is the lead hub. Thanks for a great video!

Thank you for the honnedt video ! None of the other testers explained the Matter limitation, they just relayed the press release !
Also it’s unfortunate Amara didn’t elaborate on the reason for the limitation. An honnedt reason could be, they just want their system to work 100% fine and not have bad press because of devices that ´almost’ work (Nanoleaf Essentials and Onvis switch users, hello 👋)

Hi Shane after talking to you for ages I still haven’t started with my Smart-home but now with retirement on the horizon im definitely up for it. HOWEVER the goal posts have changed yes I’m starting with Aqara products and we’re mainly Apple devices BUT do I think only HomeKit or now Home Assistant or an M3 hub ( which I may need ) but does this render HomeKit to the obsolete shelf! Only other device planned is a robot vac but not mop as my wife is convinced she will do a better job. Cheers from sunny England (joke).

The IR blaster on M3 is so much better than M2. I’ve used it to automate our hood vent fan and light in our kitchen. The state of 3rd party device support is a bummer. I was hoping it could connect to 3rd party zigbee devices directly, but that’s not the case.
