The power of social media has proven once again. What started just as a meme turned out to be an international movement towards reforestation.
This all started when YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson (MrBeast) reached 20 million subscribers in May, a fan suggested him to celebrate his milestone and save earth at the same time.
Donaldson took notice, and five months later with the help of the nonprofit conservation organization Arbor Day Foundation they came out with the idea TeamTrees campaign.
The aim of this campaign is to plant 20 million trees in a year. Each dollar donated will fund planting of one tree.
This is like a real Avengers team of YouTube. Till date hundreds of influencers have joined the movement.
Within days of this campaign, some of the top personalities started contributing. The list includes Elon Musk with US$1 million, Tobi Lutke US$1 million, Jack Dorsey, Susan Wojcicki, Alan Walker, and the list goes on. The campaign is expecting contributions worth US$20 million to plant 20 million trees across globe.
What will be the real impact of this 20 million trees?
Hope you still remember the recent Amazon fire, climate change and all the deforestation news circling around. We humans started feeling the impact of global warming. Have we ever thought how the other species are struggling? Mass extinction of species is really happening and we should feel ashamed. Planting these 20 million trees is like building a home to them.
Trees provide food, purify air, home to different species and they are the one responsible for all sort of life in this lovely planet. Look, some of the countries like Africa, India, middle east they and experiencing severe water crisis. The water table is reducing at a rapid pace like never before.
Where are we heading?
If we fail to conserve nature, the end result will be disastrous. At least by this TeamTrees movement we can contribute our part. Even if you cannot donate, you can plant a tree near your house. The motive is to plant trees and bring back our lost nature. The earth doesn’t belong to humans, it belongs to all species.
