I take a 1-2 gallon Ziploc to use in the seat pocket. Keeps my in-flight essentials clean and then I can reuse it for trash.

I listened to another podcast by Cruisetips TV and she said she brings a gallon size zip lock bag to put in the seat back pocket. Then put your cabin things bag in that ziplock. I've started doing this and it helps my germaphobe personality. 😊

100%. This is a great list! I might add that it's worth considering going with fully unscented products on a plane if possible. My soapbox: I'm not allergic to any fragrances (fingers crossed it stays that way!), but in my household we've settled into being "low scent" and let me tell you, it has made the rest of the world smell SO STRONG. I think the biggest change was when we switched to unscented laundery detergent. I can smell everyone's laundry detergent on them now, and boy howdy does it all smell artificial and overwhelming. I think it's easy for us to say "oh, this is scented, but it's not super strong" when everything we wear is fragranced enough to grade it on a curve, but here's my small plea from a less-perfumed world: just keep a little travel-sized tube of unscented lotion for the plane, maybe a little lavender if it helps with travel stress. You never know when there's a fragrance-sensitive person sitting next to you, and they want a great vacation too. *steps down from soapbox*

My best advice beyond a decent neck pillow and eye mask is to bring your own baby wipes for the bathroom. it makes a big difference to feel fresh down there.

Sleep hack. I put a blanket or sweater inside my backpack. I place a pillowcase on top of the soft place on the backpack. Then I lean over the pack on my lap and put my head on the pillowcase. I slept well for 5 hours on last flight.😊

It's always an aisle seat for me. Also, it's crucial for me to sanitize my area: tray table, arm rest and such. Airlines do sanitize; however, not between short stops for drop-offs and pick-ups.
And, I sure do agree on the dim lights/noise issue. There's a lot to be missed about the more civilized days of flying.
As always, great tips, Jen.

Just did a long haul flight to SIN. Very few airlines have a first class area, on our flight, there were a lot of business class seats. Due to back issues, I have to have lie flight seats. I use a pillow to sit on when traveling in the US, the seats are so bad. I am like you, I like to keep to a routine, but when I packed my personal bag, the “needs”of make up remover, skin care and and then make up was a lot! I’ve been wiping down setas and tables for over 25 years, with kids in tow. COVID had nothing on my routine. Whenever there’s a sets pocket I use it (sanitized of course!). I’m not old but I do see the need to learn to scale back on my personal bag as I see older travelers with just their handbag. My best friend does the SIN-JFK flight and knows where to sit and how to handle the travel. I found your by accident but like your content. Keep it up!

I don’t use the pocket on the back of the seat. I never want to stick my hand in the pocket. For a long haul flight, I use the tray cover/ organizer for airplane seat that I bought on Amazon. This organizer is used as a cover for the food tray. After a meal when I put the tray back up, it is an organizer with multiple pockets for charger, glasses, snacks and water, etc. When it’s time to eat again, I just need to open the tray and do not need to remove the organizer at all. It stays on the tray for the entire flight whether the tray is up or down. The material is washable, very well-made. Each of my family member has one and we have used it for several years. This organizer is a must have for me on long haul flight.

For lip moisturizer, instead of lip balm, I pack a tiny vaseline jar ($1). For long haul flight, after washing my face and skincare routine, I apply vaseline on my lips and dap vaseline on my face, especially the eye areas to seal moisture into the skin. This helps my skin stay hydrated during flight particularly in winter months.

On long haul flights, we fly business class. We count the flight as part of our vacation and the comfort and perks are well worth the money to us.

I agree with you about utilizing the pouch on the seat in front of you. My “pro tip” in my necessity bag, I fold up a plastic grocery bag. I put the grocery bag in the pouch first, sanitize the outside of the pouch and put my necessity bag inside that and it stays clean. Also as I have some incidental garbage, I can through it in there and give it to the flight attendant when they collect garbage at the end of the flight.

My biggest one. Bring food. I have a fond memory of buying a delicious and not expensive gigantic sandwich in the Rome airport. The food served on the plane was really terrible and I have allergies so I don’t always trust what’s given. Not flying hungry is my number one.

Thanks Jen! Really appreciate all your videos! One tip - I bring doggie bags for any trash - especially for wipes after cleaning airplane trays, seats, etc.

I also use the seat back pocket.. I wipe down the rim and inside, then I use my brightly-colored cloth bag that I put all my items in and put that bag in the seat pocket. Everything is contained and the bag is bright enough not to forget anything.

Awesome tips as always Jen! Thank you for the reminder for quite when the lights dim. We live in Atlanta and our daughter is outside London, soooo lots of long haul flights. I'm amazed at the loud stuff going on all night long.

My husband is a tall and BIG guy. He always gets a window and I sleep against him like a big pillow 😂 I don’t prefer the middle, but he would be very uncomfortable with a stranger beside him because he pours into the seat beside him. So I take the hit and have to sit middle 🙃😂
I really try to be courteous to other people, but when people are loud or disrespectful when I try to sleep… I might not be nice 😂

Brilliant as always! I love how clearly you explain everything in your videos (and of course your sense of humour). Living in Australia, our flights are often "double" long haul - e.g. 7 hours Oz to Asia, then 14 hours Asia to Europe/USA. I always stay at least one night for the dtop over to be able to sleep in a proper bed! I love your tips.
