Description: Gravitational lensing happens because galaxy clusters comprised of billions of solar masses warp space-time around them.

Light along our line of sight from younger galaxies that are billions of light-years behind the cluster is bent and distorted into multiple images.

What's even more fascinating is that the light that's split into these mirrored images takes different lengths of time to travel around the clusters, causing short events like a supernova to often appear months apart in identical images.

This is a #shorts from my episode on the James Webb Space Telescope.

That’s mind blowing, so is it an optical illusion that it duplicates, or that space time does actually duplicates and warps stuff around. Theres insane distortions of light then, wonder what variables are at play.
