"VHS" doesn't mean tape in general, it refers to a specific type of tape(the same as used in common VCRs). None of the camcorders demonstrated here use VHS or VHS-C(compact VHS, a smaller version), with a variety of analog and digital(like MiniDV) tape cameras.
Digital tapes can be copied to a computer with the exact same data as on the tape, almost always by using a "firewire" cable. Some less common digital tape cameras even recorded in High Definition (such as HDV)
There can be vast differences in image(& sometimes audio) quality depending on the tape type, brand & model, let alone vs modern SD card models.
When capturing from an analog tape, a cheap capture card/usb device (the "analog to digital converter") will limit the image quality from better cameras though.
Unfortunately a significant number of older cameras have also developed faults(often mechanical) over time, so it's best to be sure a camera is working well before buying it.
Anything that records video onto an SD card is far from a VHS camera, it's just a modern era camcorder - which can be up to 4k+, and often much more usable for video than a phone. At the top end, they can be bordering on "cinema" cameras.

what do I do so I can remove the footage from the cassette tape so I can record on it multiple times? Like how does that work? I was over here thinking we had to buy vhs tapes for each time we film, really saved me on that one, and the sd card. Also does a hi 8 tape capture audio as well? Because I know there are tapes specific for audio as well.
