My first vintage sewing series: In this vintage sewing video, part 1 of 3 I sew the 1950s style vintage wedding dress of my dreams using a reproduced vintage sewing pattern. I can't believe I am sewing a wedding dress! Its actually for my wedding anniversary.
Stayed tuned for part 2 where I sew a vintage coat to where with the vintage dress and part 3 where I sew vintage gloves, vintage hair accessory and style 1950s wedding hair tutorial and 1950s makeup tutorial for my upcoming wedding anniversary.

As per your request at the end, you can add what’s called a “waist tape” into the inside of the dress that will shift some of the weight from the shoulders to the waist. I’m not a historical dress expert by any means, but I think if you just tack some 1” wide cotton twill tape to the waist seam and then sew on a few hook and eye closures, it will really help take some of the strain off the weaker strap seams while you’re wearing it.
Hope this gives you an idea and well done on your beautiful new dress!

Oh my gosh yes you are so right! It makes a huge difference to approach a project as a learning experience instead of “skipping to the good part” as you put it. It has literally taken me years to slow down and stop cycle skipping and ending annoyed with subpar results 😂.

I love this dress! I usually do a mock up of the bodice and down through the widest part of the hip + 4”.
It’s hard to take the time to do it though.😊

Absolutely gorgeous! I will wait patiently for the next segment in your series. I ordered 2 patterns today. One was vintage Vogue FF uncut. The other was a reproduction sleeveless corset. I think that's what it is called. Definitely not a bustier. Already made one of those. Love watching you and seeing what you've made.

Fantastic choice and placement of that trim. It's so classy and elegant! And I love the idea of making it as separates. Even here where you perhaps won't be able to get a lot of use out of wearing the two pieces separately, lol.
