I don't know how to tell you this, . . .

Just about every city, town and village in America looks a bit like that during the holidays.

Eggnog is traditional holiday drink dating back hundreds of years, eggnog is made with eggs (hence the name), milk, cream, spices like nutmeg and vanilla, and fortified with rum, whisky, and/or brandy.
RECIPE:

6 large egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups milk
2 whole cloves
Pinch cinnamon
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (lightly packed)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons bourbon, or to taste
2 tablespoons rum, or to taste
4 egg whites, optional

DIRECTIONS:
Beat egg yolks, then add sugar:
In a large bowl, use a whisk or an electric mixer to beat egg yolks until they become somewhat lighter in color. Slowly add the sugar, beating after each addition. Beat at high speed or whisk until fluffy.

Heat milk with cinnamon and cloves:
Combine the milk, cloves, and cinnamon in a thick-bottomed saucepan. Slowly heat on medium heat until the milk mixture is steamy hot, but not boiling.

Temper the eggs:
Add the eggs by slowly adding half of the hot milk mixture into the eggs, whisking constantly while you add the hot mixture. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan.

Cook until eggnog thickens:
Cook the eggnog on medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture begins to thicken slightly, and coats the back of the spoon. It helps to have a candy thermometer, but not necessary; if you have one, cook until the mixture reaches 160°F.

Do not allow the mixture to boil, or it will curdle. (If the mixture does curdle you may be able to save it by running it through a blender.)
Remove from heat and stir in the cream.

Strain and chill:
Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove the cloves and any curdled bits that may have formed. Let chill for 1 hour.

SIMPLE TIP!
In a hurry to serve your eggnog? Chill it in an ice bath.

Stir in vanilla extract, nutmeg, and bourbon and rum:
Feel free to omit for kid-friendly eggnog and proceed to chill.
If you you want to include egg whites (optional):
Beat egg whites with an electric mixer until they reach soft peaks. Add a teaspoon of sugar and continue to beat until they reach stiff peaks. Gently fold into eggnog.

Note that because of the salmonella risk from raw eggs, it is recommended that children, elderly, and people with compromised immune systems refrain from eating raw eggs such as the optional whipped egg whites in this recipe, unless you use pasteurized eggs.

You can also reheat the combined eggnog and egg white mixture over a double boiler until it reaches 160°F, then remove from heat and let cool, then chill. The mixture will lose some of its fluffiness from the beaten egg whites, but not all, and the eggnog will be much airier than without the egg whites.
SIMPLE TIP!
Eggnog will keep for several days in the fridge, especially if you've already added liquor (which acts as a preservative).

I can say for sure that Leavenworth Washington is absolutely magical in any season, but during the winter it's just pure Christmas. You don't feel winter, you literally can feel Christmas.

These may be the "top 10 Christmas towns", but almost every little town decorates a bunch for Christmas. My town puts lights on a giant pine tree in the middle of town, hang lighted wreaths from street lights, tinsel/garland wrapped around the rails of a bridge in the middle of town, and place other decorations/lights all over. But the impressive thing is what the HOMES look like. People go all out. There are houses that started putting their decorations up a few weeks ago and they draw a huge crowd (they even have lights that sync to music and there's a station it's synced to, so you put it on your car radio and the music you hear is synced with the lights). There are tons and tons of houses that put lights up and driving home at night is absolutely magical.

Not long after Adam pointed out that the music was annoying, he started to head bob and looked like he was about to laugh and I had the distinct impression he wanted to bash his face in his desk at that moment. 🤣

Hey Adam how you doing today? 70 year old southern country gal here. Going to shorten it and start having 70yrSCG from now on. I live in a little small town called Liberty Tennessee it's about 50 mi east of Nashville TN. Liberty Tennessee is so small we only have a post office, " but come Christmas time, oh Lord honey Christmas lights everywhere there's decorations in the yard, and we have Christmas lights on the trees and the bushes. We all start putting up lights right after Thanksgiving. Talk about being beautiful. Our county seat is in a little town called Smithville and all the streets are lined up with different kind of Christmas things. We have our Christmas tree lighting celebration, we have Christmas tree decoration contest to see who can have the prettiest kind of Christmas trees made. All kinds of festivals go on at that time and of course we do have our Christmas parade. I'll make a small video of the whole thing come Christmas time and send it to you so you can see how we celebrate Christmas. During our Christmas parade we have floats that celebrate everything from the fire department, Police department, our military and our veterans, plus floats that celebrate a whole lot more. That's beside the bands, the carolers, the old trucks and cars, and the people that are all on horseback. We all LOVE to celebrate Christmas. I still just enjoy the heck out of watching your reaction to different things whether it's music people or places. It's always a real pleasure watching ya. May God Bless you and sending much LOVE to you and yours. I hope y'all stay safe and healthy honey.❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰

Adam, it makes me sad to think that you don’t experience Christmas like we do in the US. It really is magical. I don’t think you can go to any town and not find either a decorated Main Street or at least a decorated tree in the town common. The vast majority of people decorate the house with a wreath on the door and many have lights on their outside trees and bushes. It’s so fun to drive around and see the different lights. You would love it!

I grew up in Seattle and Tacoma so we would rent a 7 bdrm house in Leavenworth and our family would spend Xmas there. It truly is magical. We did this for 10 years and rented the same house every year. I do miss that. You would love it.

I’m a hop, skip, and a sleigh ride away from Leavenworth, Wa. The amount of detail and man hours put into their displays are crazy impressive. I started riding the bus to and from as there’s so many people that there’s no parking ❤💚

We have a large, antique, wooden Christmas Carousel that is operated by our town free of charge each year. The free tickets are obtained at a ticket booth that looks like a giant, red candle. Even at 56, I look forward to a ride each year, lol.

You should watch some Christmas light display videos. There are some spectacular displays.

pretty much every town or city i've ever been to around christmastime has been a bit like this, just without so much of the touristy aspects. regular neighborhoods sometimes have more impressive lights on private homes than some of the towns in this video

I'm from Ontario, Canada and most small towns are decorated this way around Christmas. There are also a lot of festivities throughout December wherever you go, such as drive-through light displays, horse-drawn carriage rides, winter markets selling hot apple cider, gifts etc. Every city also has an annual Santa Clause parade which usually happens on a Saturday or Sunday in December. I just assumed every town looks like this at Christmas. It makes me sad the U.K doesn't do this. In my ignorance I just assumed it was normal everywhere lol.

I’m from New York but I feel like in *Every Single State* in the U.S. you will find several amazing towns that go absolutely all out for Christmas… Having a list of *ONLY 10* is *RIDICULOUS… I’ve seen many, many unimaginably beautiful towns throughout my life that are just as EQUALLY STUNNING* in *EVERY* way‼️

Growing up we had Candy Cane Lane. The homes who decorated to the hilt was such a big draw for decades that the city paid the homes’ electrical bills!
