Dental hygiene is so important for our kitties. Having raised 2 cats to super senior age I found that out with my last ss boy. He developed a problem with a canine tooth and because of his age it was to risky to put him under and pull it as it takes a long time to get one out. He didn't lose his appetite but looking at his gums it had to be so painful. I'd never had his teeth cleaned when he was younger. The 2 boys I have now will be getting dental treats and teeth cleaned when the vet deems it necessary. I'm also going to try and brush their teeth. Wish me luck 😂

I rescued a kitten from the local shelter a few years ago. He was 8 weeks old at the time and I noticed that he had unusually bad breath. I've had many cats in my life and knew that this cat's breath was more stinky than any other cat I had ever had. I mentioned it at his first vet visit (any newly rescued pet goes to the vet within a couple of days after I bring them home) and it was shrugged off. Several months later we returned with him to be neutered and then the vet said he had early signs of gingivitis, (confirmed my suspicions from the previous visit).
After doing some research I found that (not only treats-as you mentioned) there are toys that can help with keeping their teeth clean. I also purchase silvervine sticks and chew toys for my cats which help clean their teeth. The silvervine sticks come in lots of different shapes and sizes and cats are attracted to the smell and taste-they usually have catnip flavor too. My cats love to chew on these and will play/chew on them for hours.

I have brushed my cats teeth since they were babies. I started as soon as they started eating and was bottled broken. They don’t fight me as it is part of the weekly routine

My 7yr tuxedo Charlie landed up with stomatitis and I had no choice but to have him put down... It's so sad and heartbreaking... So yes good hygiene is important... But somethings developed and there's nothing you can do to fix the situation... Very good video ❣️

My BOMBAY Baby, ( cat ) is now almost 21yrs. in just a couple months .
Anyway the vet told my that except for my cats gums & teeth, it's hard to tell that she is actually the age that I say she is .

Since I moved to a mix of dry food and meat my cat hasnt had bad breath any more. With soft food she would get these horrid smells from her mouth. So I guess Im in the Bad Rat category :D
