Burning Poison hemlock and breathing in the fumes can also send you to the E.R. Some people develop contact poisoning if the come into contact with this plant and suffer. Poison hemlock is a member of the carrot family and its leaves are often mistaken for carrots, Queen Anne's lace, Parsley, Dill and others. The 5 petaled flowers are white and grow in umbrella like clusters. Conium maculatum often grows unto to about 5 to 7 feet high. This plant can be very dangerous if consumed or burned, even deadly, but the roots and seeds are the most poisonous parts of the plant. Great video Chris! Just saw some of this on a nature trail last week! I was explaining to my friend how some people confuse it with Queen Anne's Lace and how to tell the difference. Some people get it confused with elderberry as well. Totally different subject but similar mix-up ... a neighbor said he'd found a coral snake in his yard and when I went to check it out it was a harmless scarlet king snake. My neighbor flipped out when I reached down and picked it up. Relocated it to safety and all THREE of us were happy.

That stuff was growing in our backyard, and I didn’t want it pulled. It was so pretty! Now I’m horrified.

Have you ever seen giant hogweed? I was fascinated and terrified of it as a kid, always asking my mum "is that....?" Never was
Would still like to see it, from a safe distance!
I heard the reason curly parsley was cultivated was to distinguish it from hemlock, as natural parsley was too close in appearance. Not sure if that's true. Seems flat-leaf parsley is fashionable these days - be careful out there!

I ate a poison hemlock root as a six year old kid and shared it with my five year old friend....we both were like the exorcist movie vomiting across the room for the entire root was identified later but my crazy mother never even took me to the hospital... I've wondered if it affected me permanently because I've never been able to throw up since then....even when I had food poisoning or stomach virus....

Remember, "Queen Anne has hairy legs!" Queen Anne's Lace has fuzzy/hairy stems, and the stems are all green (no purple).
