Dordogne is a department in southwest France, set between the Loire Valley and Pyrenees mountains. It’s known for prehistoric cave paintings in the Vézère Valley, like those in Lascaux Cave. The town of Périgueux is home to the Cathedrale St-Front, with its 5 domes, and the Vesunna Museum, built around Roman ruins. The medieval town Sarlat-la-Canéda centers on the Rue de la Republique and the Cathédrale St-Sacerdos.

🏰Sarlat-la-Canéda is a medieval town in southwest France's Dordogne department. Its central Sainte-Marie Church, redesigned by architect Jean Nouvel, hosts an indoor food market, and a glass elevator in the bell tower offers city views. Sarlat Market sells local delicacies like foie gras and cheese. To the south, close to the Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat, stands the bullet-shaped Lanterne des Morts tower.

🏰La Roque-Gageac is situated at the foot of a towering limestone cliff along the banks of the Dordogne, La Roque-Gageac offers visitors a labyrinth of cobbled streets, a troglodyte fort and a Romanesque church that dominates the valley. Listed as one the most beautiful villages in France, it is arguably one of the most photogenic in South-West France.
Fringed with ocher facades and Lauzé roofs, nearly all of its routes lead passers-by to a magnificent view over the river.

🏰Castelnaud la Chapelle sits on the confluent of the Dordogne and the Ceou river. Dominated by its magnificent castle it is one of the most beautiful villages of France.
At its lowest point Castelnaud la Chapelle sits on the edge of the river. A lovely tranquil spot where you can take advantage of the cafés for refreshments or take a picnic to the river's edge.
From here it is a fairly steep climb up through the village passing on the way the village church which unusually is not at the highest point of the village.

🏰Beynac-et-Cazenac is a must in the Périgord Noir. Its 12th century castle is one of the best preserved and most authentic in the region, and offers breathtaking views of the valley of the 5 castles and the Dordogne river. The walk in the village is also to do because it has preserved all its authenticity.
At the heart of the Périgord Noir, clinging to one of the most beautiful cliffs of the Dordogne valley, the medieval village of Beynac-et-Cazenac, ranked one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, offers a page of history.
