1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 454 Convertible Muscle Car Of The Week Video #44

If you were to go buy a brand-new 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, what options would you choose? This week, our featured Muscle Car is a super-clean 1970 Chevelle SS 454 with the 450 HP LS6 V8 backed by a Muncie M22 4-speed transmission. Couple that with a power convertible top, and you've got an awesome ride capable of burning through the first 3 gears while wind-blowing your hair at the same time. There are multiple LS6 Chevelles in the Brothers Collection, but this one is perhaps the most sinister.

The 70 Chevelle SS is still a beautiful car. The lines are timeless. Fifty years later I never get tired of looking at them. It's my favorite of all time.

Interesting thing is the advertised HP and Torque rating was well below the factory redline of 6500. That rating was at @5600. All you had to do was add large primary tube headers, increase the jet sizes by 4 in front, 2 in rear, add @5 degrees in initial timing and that thing became a MONSTER!

Awesome car, but I gotta go with the hardtop version. I like how you guys really drive the cars and not just talk about them. Cool!

The 1970 454 LS-6 450 HP engine used a Holley 800 CFM spread bore carburetor specifically for this engine. Another engine option was the LS5 365 HP which used the Rochester Q-jet 750 cfm unit, other engine options were the L34-396-402 350 HP, Q-jet carb, L78-396-402 375 HP, & the L89 were also Holley Carb however this final option used Aluminum heads. I know since I owned a few of these new in there day way back then. They were some of the best! The customer had allot of options to choice from. Something you don't see any more.

I got a ride in one when I was 22 it had a turbo 400 in it.But with 4 200 lbs guys it would smoke the tires at 30 mph by just matting the pedal

And the Tuxedo Black is Perfect for this Beauty. Bucket seat's would have been nice but bench seats are great for your gal to slide up next to you.

Great car, I do believe that would be a Holley, not a quad carburetor..

I think you slipped on the rim size too but, it's all good; love the series.

I wouldn't mention the Charlie Sheen ownership thing, it might make it go down in value...

He also slipped on saying smog was for California cars when in fact all LS6 cars had the smog system along with L78 cars.

The Corvette low rise intake never made any sense in the Chevelle. The hi rise L72/L88 intake would’ve fit just fine and added 10-15hp over the terrible low riser.

Bench seats in a SS just don't do it for me. I had a 70 SS 396.

So was the Holley carb. an option for the Ls6? This one you said was a quadrajet but on another Ls6 cars you have featured you said holley 850. They say they Holley performs better but for me I'll take the intake howl of a quad. any day, even if I had to loose some h.p. Keep up the good work. I love your channel!
