It's real subtle, but the significance of that last scene is Col Serling is realizing for the first time that Karen Walden was the medical chopper pilot at the site of his friendly fire incident. It took me several viewings before I realized what that final scene was saying.

EXCELLENT choice Cassie. One of Denzel's underrated gems to illustrate a taboo subject: Friendly fire, the psychological aspects of those responsible living with their pain, and each person's ability to forgive. Imo, Meg Ryan's amazing acting against type, and the supporting cast is stacked with talent. The ending was fire.

Matt Damon went way above and beyond for this role. He lost heaps of weight on purpose to play a man with ptsd and a heroin problem. This before he ever hit it big with Good Will Hunting.

I don't think I've seen any other reactor watch this movie. I remember seeing this a couple decades ago, and I enjoy rewatching it. It's a phenomenal and emotional story, and your reaction is truly heartfelt. Thanks for watching this!

always thought very highly of this movie…acting was first-rate, and especially enjoyed seeing Meg Ryan play against type

This was 8 years before, but it relates so much, I think, to the Pat Tillman story... the "let's just decorate a hero, and not worry about the details."

Great reaction Cassie. I haven't seen this movie in a while. I forgot how good it really is. Thank you for watching it and sharing it with us.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to remember all of the Veterans in this country and abroad. Too often they/we are forgotten and taken for granted.

As someone who served in the Gulf War, in the same unit as Jimmy Haws, who died in combat in a tank. He died while our platoon was being ambushed, similar to the way this movie depicted it. As one section of the enemy was surrendering, another section used it as an opportunity to attack.

War is hell. Most people in America and Canada have no idea what war is like. i pray they never know. But, so many people are pushing us towards it every day.

This movie always gets to me.

A little poetic detail that is often missed about this movie is that the night of the tank battle is the same night that the events being investigated occurred: 25 February.

Now you’ve got to watch Rules of Engagement, with Samual L Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones. It’s a military courtroom drama, similar to A Few Good Men, and was actually made as a bit of a response to AFGM, to sort of tell the “other side”, the ugly side, of combat. It’s really well done, and with the insight you’ve gained from all the previous military movies you’ve watched, I think you’ll enjoy and appreciate it.

Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis is another really good one, and is loosely based on true events of a Canadian JTF2 Special Forces mission in the 1980s.

Another outstanding and underrated Edward Zwick film. Whenever he works with Denzel its always amazing. I love the scene at the end where Denzel sits down and tells the truth to Boylar's parents about his death. Thanks for reacting to this movie as it doesn't get the respect it deserves.

This was my favorite Meg Ryan performance. Denzel Washington doesn't know how to make a bad movie. Those unfamiliar with how the military works, probably had a problem keeping up with the twists and turns, but the end was easy to understand. Great choice Cassie.

The conversation with Boylar's father is my favorite scene in the movie. Two good men talking and giving each other what they need: Boylar's father gets the truth about his son's death, and Denzel gets told by Boylar's father that it's okay to forgive himself for what happened.

I was in the military for 13 years and went to the Gulf War as my first real world deployment after years of training. This movie came out years later and I was serving in Korea on a remote assignment, so I got to see it in a base theater where every person in the audience was an active duty troop, many that were in the Gulf for Desert Storm.

The audience reaction was no doubt different than the usual civilian theater goer.

The movie "City of Angels" from 1998 with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan for your viewing pleasure. A beautiful romance.

Being a military spouse/family is full of challenges. I am very grateful that our family made it through 22yrs together.

This is a very powerful and moving movie that I get to see every Veterans day. I am a honorably discharged American veteran, it resembles what I and many other American veterans went through.

I kept expecting that one guy to say “Don’t be ridiculous cousin Larry!”
