Life is truly random so many people need to believe because they can't face the truth we are here just by chance

I'm an atheist but i have no trouble believing i should be a good person and that this matters. Why? Because people are alive today, they will be alive tomorrow, and the fact that one day they won't doesn't mean they don't matter while they're here.

I think holds true whether or not you believe in God and should be a big motivator to be a kind and decent person.

Just sharing some perspective. Have a blessed day

Yes, he's exactly right. There is no meaning outside of what we as a society declare to be meaningful, and individuals who choose whether or not to accept that meaning.

I as an athiest have always been taught, that just because there won't be consequences in our afterlife, that does not give me the permission to hurt people, because i wouldn't want to be hurt myself

It doesn’t matter what the “ultimate meaning” is, that word ultimate is pointless to use. We can live out our daily lives in relationship with each other, the only one telling us we NEED to realize and come to this dire conclusion is Christians.

I swear people have so much trouble understanding this point.

"But I make my own purpose!"

Yes, and? That purpose is ultimately meaningless. You are a cosmic accident and your existence is meaningless. Our galaxy could disappear in the blink of an eye and the universe wouldn't even notice.

You can only perceive purpose and your perception is meaningless.

I don't hurt, i am good because i don't want people to suffer i want to help. That doesn't mean i need a God

It's sad that the only motivation you can imagine is personal reward.

As a human being i too struggle with the idea that my ego might not live on.

That's the exact same argument for Santa. Be a good kid and get a toy. Try harder, mate.

How did he shut them down? He just showed that the religious people can't be good people without a heaven and hell. Atheists are good without any promise of reward or punishment. He admits to having no morality.

We're all dying. Just be good. Why do you need to believe in an afterlife to be good?

But what if we aknowledge it. Youre right. Ultimately it is meaningless.

Counterpoint: evil and virtue exist as ethical concepts that do not require a diety to justify them.

And just as ultimately, you provide the meaning to your own life, and the lives of others, whichever way you choose to live it.

Honestly... This man strikes me as a wannabe Jordan Peterson.

As someone who doesn’t believe in God, heaven or hell, that’s bullshit. I live my life in an attempt to experience as much happiness and to help others experience the most happiness. You don’t need a deity threatening you with eternal damnation to be a good person. Anyone who does is just a bad person scared of fire.

The best part is both of those people were kinda terrible

I am an agnostic, but i personally font agree. Well i know this is directed towards atheists, but i would like to share because yk, i can. I don’t disagree with the concept of an afterlife but i believe more in the fertilizer way. So when cliffe says we will all live meaninglessly because of that, I’m half and half. But still, the experience of living is so nice and unique itself, it is worth living and making the most of it. That is the meaning to me. So no there is no definitive answer, but life is worth living.

Under Christianity, only ONE thing matters that you do on earth: join the cult.

Doesn't matter how bad you are, if you believe Jesus is your savior, all your bad actions are erased. If you're not a Christian, it doesn't matter how good you were.

Honestly that argument sounds kinda flawed. It makes it sound like you do good and avoid doing bad to go to heaven, even though its based on faith not by works. I feel like we should do good no matter how "meaningless" it may seem at that moment.
