So in other words, they are kind of doing a rebranding of "Microsoft Game Studios" as "Xbox".

I thought that said "Project Run Away."

They are trying to say Xbox is not a box/console anymore... Xbox is just a loose concept that really revolves around the Xbox Ecosystem/network... meaning primarily Game Pass. As long as the device supports Game Pass, it becomes an "Xbox". Xbox/Microsoft are going "third party" without saying they are going third party as a point of pride.

I don’t want to see next gen for another 10 years. This gen is just getting off the ground.

I think the real wakeup call for Microsoft will be if we start seeing gaming-focused laptop- and prebuilt desktop manufacturers ship with SteamOS instead of Windows

It's so sad to see MS completely destroy the Xbox brand. They had a chance to come out this gen and rebound from the XBone debacle, but it looks like they failed miserably

Is anyone actually surprised at Microsoft's shenanigans anymore?

This was predictable. The moment they ran with the idea that 8th gen was the most important console generation, and that exclusive big games that people would want, wouldn't help sell their consoles, you should have known they were too inept to steer the ship towards a competitive future.

Redefining what it is to be an Xbox fan??? Did I ask to be redefined??? I was happy with how things were (which is broadly how Nintendo & Sony still define their gaming).

I think their strategy is heavily based in Amazon Prime video - Amazon have an ecosystem/os that hosts its content first and foremost, they have that ecosystem on their own hardware (like fire sticks and fire tablets) but also make it available on other devices (Android, iPads, TVs, Roku etc.) so that success isn’t tied to their specific hardware sales, and they also allow other services to run on its hardware (Fire sticks can have Apple TV on it etc.). But that works for Amazon because of one reason - exclusive content. If nothing is exclusive, what is the driver for me to adopt xbox hardware or ecosystem?? Why not have a PS5 and wait for the next Halo to jump ship?

Xbox is transitioning into this weird hybrid 3rd party/subscription provider/storefront model that is all about Game Pass and nothing else. I’ve a Series S but to be honest my kids just use it for playing Fortnite and that’s it. I’ve got a couple of very healthy Xbox 360 consoles (and some healthy PS3s) that I still have tons of fun on - I’ll just stick with them.

Valve is like: This is a Steam Deck. This is a Steam Deck. This is a Steam Deck. This is a Steam Deck.

This generation isn’t even off the ground. They just stopped making PS4/5 hybrid games…

I think Microsoft doesn't want to sell hardware anymore, I think they just want to sell game pass subscriptions.

Satiya is basically steering the ship now. Microsoft makes far more money distributing software than everything else combined, and that's what they're doing. The Outer Worlds 2 was originally exclusive, but that's changed going forward. People say Sony are doing the same because they're porting to PC, but it's not. Do you see them bringing God of War, The Last of Us, ect to Xbox? No. I won't be surprised if the next Gears of War comes to PlayStation. It's just the reality.

It’s funny for Microsoft saying that no games are off the table when it comes to multiplatform games. There’s no point to buying Xbox anymore.

Yeah, they lost me lol. This is dumb. You guys own some of the biggest studios and IPs. Just make an awesome console and keep your games stuck on the console and PC. You’ll be fine.

Next gen Xbox will be dead on arrival - Why trust Microsoft?
- Xbox 360 - 84 million
- Xbox One - 58 million
- Xbox s sx - 28 million (half way through current gen. Asia and EU sales have crashed)

People buy cars for various reasons—comfort, safety, performance, style, etc. Who buys a car because it has cup holders? Is being able to take my soda from my house to my car to my office a selling point? Who TF cares?

Saying I can take my game saves between my console, pc, phone etc is ok guess but it’s nothing more than additive. The thing I actually care about is *the game*

If I can get all Xbox games on PlayStation along with PlayStation exclusives, but can’t get PlayStation exclusives on Xbox, why would I buy an Xbox? Why would I stay in that ecosystem? I’d rather Xbox have no multi-platform niceties like cross buy/cross saves but have a ton of awesome exclusives I can’t play anywhere else. That would make me want an Xbox.
