Just ordered the Nilai500DIY kit and came upon your video. Nice job! - Helpful to actually see how it goes together -very simply. Thanks

I have had mine for just over a year now and it still sounds amazing. It is the first amp I have owned that possesses that elusive inky black background usually only found on mega-buck amps. ASR tested a Nilai mono block and they got the claimed power output and the frequency response is dead flat to 25, 000hz with super low distortion levels. A few months ago, I added a second PSU making it a dual mono amp with power jumping up to 500 watts per channel into 4 ohms. I also fitted a toggle switch to the rear panel so I can externally select the input gain setting. My only criticism is that is faithfully amplifies whatever is input so it will not mask poor recordings and you will hear every single fault in those recordings.

Very interesting project, I had also thought about a diy construction for a class D amplifier but Hypex, in the end I gave up because I don't have adequate electronics training and risked throwing my money away. I bought a finished product that I was completely satisfied with and I am happy with it.

I bought and assemble one of these. It is pretty foolproof and sounds great. Hardest part was the case.

Probably a silly comment but I like the background music. With many channels the music sucks or its too loud.
Yours fits well.

Coming from doing a diy tube guitar amp with a bunch of switchable mods this is like 'put the square peg in the square hole. Now put the round peg in the round hole'. Do you know your shapes? Then you can put this together!

Can you tell us how the sound compares to your Crown XLS 2002 amp? Thanks.

Hello, thanks a lot for the instructional clip. May I ask you if the amplifier has some sort of loud bump noise when you start up or shutdown it?

Looks nice. More of a "assembly required" than a DIY, but neat either way.

I looked up the price for what is essentially an ikea-esque amplifier and the pricing model is absurd. The total cost of components is probably $100 to $200.

I may be an idiot in this realm as I have spent 30 years in the Car Audio industry. Class D amplifiers have been a standard for years and I have incorporated them with proper power supplies running an array of drivers. The class D amplifiers I have used for my application make this look inferior, as well as low ohm load capabilities and power output. I am, of course, only using these for subwoofer drivers. Anyway, cool and thanks for the info.

While cool, it seems more expensive than Buckeye Amps, but he's in America. It's good to have options though. I like their DIY PreDIGin add-on option.

I did their preamp kit and it’s been kind of a disappointment. The remote isn’t as universal as they market, and there’s some weird noise issues when changing volume.
