This was helpful, but to make it ultimately useful it would have been helpful to show how to remove the deeper layer of batteries!

To easily take out the deeper/second layer, pull the red little string ribbon thing. Makes it really easy
But if you pull that and it doesn't help, time to grab a toothpick or butter knife to wiggle those batteries out. Put the new ones in with the ribbon behind the back batteries so you can just pull that next time.
