He’s a good and very intelligent man, whose advice would get us ahead fast, if we would only listen.

too bad when I ask questions people belittle me that I do not know anything

However, I have a caveat.
I was on a course where something as instructor said didn’t make sense to me.
When I asked he became upset and thought I was accusing him of something.
I literally had to say, “I’m not arguing with you. I don’t understand why and how it is the way you say it is and I’m trying to understand the rational for it being that way. I’m ASKING a question because I don’t understand, I’m not questioning your authority.”

I don’t necessarily have a ton of strengths, but I like to think one of mine is that I have no problem asking “dumb questions” and asking them often. I’ve never been the kind of man that has his ego tied into the equation in that context. That’s how I learn the ins and outs, and I usually end up better than average or even the best at whatever job or skill I’m learning. 😁

A good teacher, will accept your ‘stupid question’ as a chance to redefine what they are saying. At that point they may realise that the way they are saying it is not the most intelligible way, and perhaps it’s them who needs to think about how they are delivering the message..

I was thanked for the questions I asked in a meeting recently.
I prefaced my many questions with an acknowledgement of my honest ignorance. Then I asked and continued to ask, until I ran out of questions and other people were joining in.

The person who thanked me explained that it was helpful because often others are wondering but don't feel comfortable to speak up and ask for themselves, plus we need someone to speak first and most people don't want to.

I had made a decision before the meeting that I was just as welcome to ask things as anyone else there - I am a member and want to make informed decisions. The only way to do that is to get informed.

I say this same thing, kind of... I say if you read 1000 books you wont be asking stupid questions anymore. In fact youll be the smartest guy in the room. Even 100 and you feel a noticeable difference, at 500 you start having a difficult time finding something you want to read. It doesnt have to be textbook type material, you read Hemingway or Marcus Aurelius or Tom Clancy or Steven King or even Jordan Peterson here those guys are all brilliant and you get 100% of the best they got and 100% of their undivided attention... I dont listen to anyone but Ill read em. Im good for Ted Talks n such but I dont ask advice or take it.

Don't ask the same question 100 times expecting a different answer.

Ignorance transforms into stupidity when you have the chance to stop being ignorant by asking a question but choose not to because asking a question might somehow hurt your feelings ... that's stupid.

Technically he should use the work ignorant not stupid, but his point is so true. Great advice.
