‘It’s not right’: Foxtel CEO slams Labor’s ‘takeover’ of Smart TV content

A battle is brewing between Foxtel and free-to-air TV over content shown on Smart Televisions amid a proposed 'prominence framework' for homepage tiles.

The Albanese government has promised to provide better visibility for local streaming apps but Foxtel claims Australian viewers do not want to be dictated to by the government.

Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany joined Sky News Australia to discuss Labor’s position on the issue and what their proposed plan would mean for the future of television.

“It is not right. The government needs to listen to everyday Australians. They own the TV, they’re passionate about it and they do not want the government telling them what to watch,” Mr Delany said.

“All of the people watching that have Foxtel - it really is a takeover of their remote… if you want to go into apps, all the Free TV apps would be listed first.”

Less crap reality shows would be a good start. People who watch that crap have a very boring life.

People that want those apps installed can get them anytime they want .. Government doesn't get the right to Tell Australians what to Watch and more importantly Track how Australians use those apps and When
