Fixed base router rookie mistake lap joint

Making a simple lap joint with a router you want to work from the end towards the fence and not the other way around. This is a video of doing it from the fence out which is obviously incorrect

Thank you for posting this; it's brave to show our mistakes. Me a beginner & learner; so appreciate your advice. My question: by routing across the piece from left to the right fence, given the clockwise spin of the bit, should the router be moved from top to bottom, for each column of wood removed? (Have watched 50 videos of routers, and this one is the most helpful.)
