🔴 What if we tried a live orchestral score? | Live Composing Show

After much conversation with the #MonsterSanctuary game dev team, I've decided to update the sound palette to include more orchestral instruments across the #soundtrack to better blend with the original track style.

This stream will showcase one of the coolest features in #Cubase - the ability to split the session into 2 sessions and work on 2 versions of the soundtrack simultaneously!

Ok, this feedback became much longer than I planned, but here I go :D

Computer drawn pixelated graphics with computer generated electronic sound does fit, it's like - yeah, ok, the melodies are nice. The orchestral sound reaches out for you, grabs you, and has you perceive the game in a more realistic way - the familiarity of the real sound kind of activates the fantasy within you, drags the game to a whole new level.

First off, the woodwinds got me kinda excited since I love the ancient forest track, but I see how they got completely overtaken by the rest of the orchestra. I don't think though that it would sound weird if they still appeared somewhere else in the soundtrack (where appropriate). "I have an orchestra and I'm not afraid to use it" poses no questions, but "yeah, I have created this different electronic synth to fit in this single section" is... out of place.

And now, allow me to mark a few spots where the nail has been hit straight on:

22:39 The solo being taken by the flute just instantly made the whole track have so much personality! Plus the current simplicity just highlights the melody.

55:00 Majestic brass ensemble! I see how it could sound too huge, but the brass taking over this particular melody is the right course!

1:13:23 I mean, this whole passage just sounds awesome. And the brief soloing of the violin was incredible! More of a movie OST territory though.

Slight concerns I have are about the bass, which has a bit too much body, but that may be just derived from how loud it is. I also think getting too fancy with the violin may hurt the track in the end. I've listened to the stream three times now (lol) and the solo violin is truly taking the spotlight in some places. I'm not at all opposed to using it, in fact, it does glue things together, I just think getting too fancy with the melodies is going to make it annoying when listened to repeatedly. So it overall depends on how "rare" the track is, aka how much you will run into it. I think the alchemist battle is high on the rare scale, I just meant that as a heads up.
