Funny story, when I showed Guzzlord to my cousin for the first time, he said “that’s the angriest lobster I’ve ever seen”

I personally really like the implication of clowns being an invasive species with blacephalon

I love the idea that Poipole is a member of a starter trio in another dimension

I think naganadel and guzzlord are friends because naganadel can telepathically communicate with guzzlord. Guzzlord doesn’t really seem to be able to talk, so it makes sense it would get attached to the first being it could have a conversation with

I think that Guzzlord being weak to fairies is fitting given the association fairies have with nature.

I feel like Naganadel's vague resemblance to Ridley from Metroid was a deliberate design inspiration. He's a space dragon after all.

maybe they're friends to form a sort of symbiotic relationship? they sort of cover each other's theoretical weaknesses, and being rooted in place by glue while a guzzlord barrels towards you is SUCH an intimidating thought

My take on the connection between Naganadel and Guzzlord is that Guzzlord is the only other Pokémon (Ultra Beast or otherwise) that is willing to eat something with that sticky poison all over it. If Naganadel uses its poison to defeat an enemy and doesn't eat it, nothing is going to want to touch it, especially with how sticky the goop is, making cleaning it off an impossibility. Guzzlord, on the other claw, will happily gulp down anything covered in the goop, including whatever terrain it's stuck to.

For Guzzlord, some dragon mythos has it that they can eat pretty much anything for sustenance, even rocks and dirt.
For Naganadel, insects have their vital organs in their back body segment. So it's brain isn't too much of a stretch.
As for their friendship, a quick Google search for a relationship between crabs and wasps revealed that wasps can help red crabs be safe from yellow crazy ants and there's a type of hermit crab that seems to have a wasp nest on/for its hidey shell. Nature is crazy cool sometimes.

Talking about Poipole's name etymology, something that seems to be missing is the "Poi" part. Poi is the name of a sticky purple taro paste made in the Pacific Islands which seems to fit the sticky glue and purple theme.

I like to think Naganadel and Guzzlord being paired up in the TCG is a reference to Ridley and Kraid from Metroid.

I have an idea! Guzzlord and Naganadel are friendly because Naganadel is a communal species, which is also probably why they work so well as starter pokemon. Guzzlord is just like, a big hungry friend, and it probably sees Naganadel as helpful for getting food.

I would love to hear what kind of direction Guzzlord‘s voice actor got.
“OK so like what kind of voice are you going for kind of like deep and spooky or like-“
“Oh no no no we have a much better idea for how we’re gonna do this Pokémon. So what you’re going to do is go into the booth and scream as loud as you possibly can directly into the microphone.”
“A-are you sure about tha-“
“Yes, now get in the booth.”

You missed the most important part about the Hitchhiker's guide character - his final incarnation being an amalgamation of all of his previous ones. That's where the abomination thing comes in, all other incarnations were normal (just an ordinary rabbit, human, etc.)

If Poipole and Naganadel are based on wasps/bees, and Guzzlord is a corrupted/twisted mirror Zygarde, then I think the reason they’re friends is pretty obvious.

I mean the embodiment of the ecosystem, and one of its critical pollinators? Naganadel are probably critical to the life cycle of all Guzzlord’s favorite fruits. And since Naganadel is telepathic, Guzzlord doesn’t have to hurt his throat screaming at them to talk!

Clearly a match made in Ultra Heaven.

Given Naganadel's psionic capabilities and its non-invasive nature, it's distinctly possible that it uses the aforementioned telepathy to keep Guzzlord on task, making Naganadel & Guzzlord a Brains + Brawn combo, mirroring Pheromosa & Buzzwole

I've always loved how the Ultra Beasts are based off Invasive species, it makes them extra spooky, but Poipole and Naganadel not being invasive and "staying in their lane" is super neat too!

Always happy to see an Ultra Beast Video from you! I love these lil freaks with all my heart!
