Assisted Dying: MPs To Be Given Chance To Vote On Bill In Parliament

Proposals to change the law to give terminally ill people “choice at the end of life” are to be introduced in Parliament this month.

Labour MP Kim Leadbeater said she hoped for “honest, compassionate and respectful debate” when her Bill, which will be tabled on October 16, is considered in the Commons.

The conversation around legalising assisted dying has been increasingly in the spotlight for the past year, with high-profile figures including broadcaster Dame Esther Rantzen calling for a parliamentary debate and vote on change.

I watched my grandfather who was 95 suffer for years untill his death. He had lost his wife, his siblings, his friends, he was the last one left of his generation. He was so terribly lonely and in horrifically poor health. He was begging my mum to help him end his life but instead we had to tell him that was not possible and force him to live in suffering until his death. I for one am for the OPTION of assisted dying. I dont ever want to suffer at the end of my life the way we forced my grandfather too. He wanted to end his life on his terms, why should anyone force a person in suffering who has lived a long and fulfilled life to stay alive when they dont want to anymore.

My life belongs to me as does yours to you. If later in life i should wish to end it early due to ill health, then surly it is my decision and mine alone.

Won't someone think of the cost of the Winter Fuel Allowance? Oh wait, Starmer and his fellow gits already have.

Well at least after the last few years, we know the government and NHS are 100% on our side and are to be trusted at all times.

Really its the second vote on the issue, as the first vote was taking the winter fuel allowance of pensioners. That will probably assist 3000-4000 to die. How convenient.

It's about time the government doing something right.

So we have a bunch of privately educated people deciding sick people's futures? Only top doctors should be able to vote, not unqualified mps without any real-life experience. Who th f are they to decide on something so important?

Kier has already got the ball rolling with removing the winter fuel allowance .

Should be a Referendum to the public as MPs haven't carried out our wishes for at least 45 years.

Is this to vote for themselves to have assisted dying for not doing their jobs and taking bribes, I’d vote yes for that

one moment you can have it your way, and the next, it's snatched away from you, it's modern time

Of course it can! In Canada, married to a quadriplegic who was recently amputated and encouraged to use the maid program, thankfully he did not. I’m aware that there are situations where one should have choice, choice! Not encouragement to choose one path that benefits you and not them. The difference comes from the heart, not a meeting.

Lot of thick comments here from people who think it’s fine to make people suffer long horrible deaths but let animals be put out of their misery at the first signs of suffering

The British voters should vote on this not the Government but then again, we voted to leave the EU and never got it-so what’s the point?
