Strain gage (strain gauge) technology, as a key internal component of finished sensor designs, is a long-recognized industry standard. The new flexible Advanced Sensors Technology strain gages detect the slightest change in electrical resistance, occurring in response to an applied force. In addition to their reliability, strain gages are relatively compact and low cost. This has facilitated their widespread adoption into many of today’s force, load, position, pressure, tension, weight, and strain sensor designs. Such traditional designs have typically called for the bonding and soldering of anywhere from one to four, eight or even sixteen individual strain gages within a single proprietary configuration. These circuits may also contain balance resistors, modulus-compensating resistors, and temperature compensating resistors or RTDs. Among these, the full Wheatstone bridge, a four-strain-gage arrangement, has consistently offered the highest measurement accuracy, sensitivity and extraneous temperature cancellation.

As sensor count increases, so does the wiring complexity and with that reliability problems. Each individual wire / connection, manually created is a potential source of error and / or failure. Additionally, the labor costs for making such intricate gage bonding / wiring assemblies are becoming increasingly prohibitive; however, there is a solution to all these problems.

Micro-Measurements Advanced Sensors Technology offers the load cell / transducer manufacturer a solution by providing custom sensor / flexible circuit assemblies. These sensor / flex circuit arrays, designed by our staff of engineers working with each customer, provide a single, complete assembly incorporating Advanced Sensors gages, resistors and other sensors. The sensors are precisely located to meet the required tolerances with all electrical connections already completed under very precisely controlled conditions. This assembly is then bonded to the transducer element in a single step ready for cable attachment, protective coating application and final electrical check / balance.

Micro-Measurements Advanced Sensors Technology / flexible circuits assemblies provide a cost effective manufacturing solution while increasing precision and long-term reliability.

Why the wiggles? What kind of connector on the end?
