There is also the cheaper route by doing Fresh water tanks

I would recommend to start with freshwater.

Please do NOT underestimate how hard it can be to maintain these tanks for the everyday person. They can take a lot of work, even when you buy all the right stuff.

Start off with freshwater for a few years first

Fish keel is so therapeutic imo.
I have 7 tanks that range from 75 gallons to 10 and I love all my tanks.
Yes it can be a lot at time but it’s so rewarding to watch your finished produce or just the fish swim through the water. It’s so relaxing

Yeeaaaah don’t just try to get people into saltwater immediately.. imo there’s a lot of stages in the aquarium hobby just like let’s say terraria. It goes just like the game itself honestly, generating the game (making the freshwater fish tank) There’s pre bosses (cycling the tank) then you defeat the first boss (begginer fish) and go more and more on, till you reach the end of pre hardmode (end phase fresh water like discus and Oscar’s) then go to hardmode which is saltwater. If you go straight into hardmode without any preparation and items you are just gonna die before you can do anything not being able to defeat any enemy’s because you don’t have any items (knowledge)! (Aka your fish dying) what I’m trying to say is just don’t do saltwater as a begginer, there’s a start to this hobby and it’s freshwater.

You should sell large fish tanks. Those fish need more space and it’s more fun to have more than 2 fish in a tank.

I agree. As an AuDhd person with bags of trauma in life, I find my saltwater hobby keeps me calm and gives my mind something positive to focus on.

$550 for just the tank is pretty steep. I’ve been wanting to start a small saltwater aquarium but these kits just aren’t affordable for me

"used to be" yeah man I kept tanks like almost 2 decades ago and they were not something as simple as these videos nowadays seem! Can remember fighting my Aqua C skimmer all.the.time, doing water tests way too often, then there's species specific problems like you get into eels and gotta learn just how good they are at finding ways to sneak outta the tank and kill themselves :p. My lil ~2gal 'pico' or 'nano' reef tank was a nightmare, did water changes several times weekly.... really thinking to get back into them seeing the kits you guys are posting, I even saw a video with a guy showing his mandarin goby (the internet would CRUCIFY you for keeping those in small tanks back in the day!)
