Yussef Dayes | Live at North Sea Jazz 2023

We zien meesterdrummer Yussef Dayes met zijn band bestaande uit Malik Venner (saxofoon), Elijah Fox-Peck (keyboards), Rocco Palladino (bas) en Alex Bourt (percussie) met de nummers 'Tidal Wave', 'Tioga Pass' en 'Welcome to the Hills' op North Sea Jazz 2023.

Yussef Dayes’ ouders gaven hem zijn eerste drumkit toen hij net vier was. Hun strenge boodschap: neem je muziek vooral serieus. Zijn vader wist wat er op het spel stond; zelf was hij bassist geweest in de competitieve jazzscene van het New York van de jaren 70. Samen met zijn bas-spelende broer Kareem jamde Yussef urenlang mee op de uitgebreide jazz- en reggaecollectie van hun vader. Op zijn tiende kreeg het talent al les van voormalig Miles Davis-drummer Billy Cobham, een ervaring die hij als baanbrekend bestempelt. Net zo invloedrijk waren de grime- en hiphopinvloeden van zijn Zuid-Londense schoolvrienden. Bekend werd Dayes met de band United Vibrations en het energieke gelegenheidsduo Yussef Kamaal (met toetsenist Kamaal Williams). Met zijn recente Yussef Dayes Experience creëert de veelzijdige drummer vooral epische, dromerige soundscapes, nu eens leunend op mellow ritmes, dan opeens exploderend in furieuze breakbeats.

Hi guys, i wanted to thank you for your kind comments on the sound quality. I recorded this concert live to two-track for Dutch national TV broadcaster NTR. No mixing or postproduction afterwards. What a treat, these guys! They played at the Paradiso in Amsterdam a few years ago, i recorded that concert to, Yussef listened in the recording van afterwards. Such a great guy! Suoer talented, humble and musical.
