Big Picture Classic - 'WORLDS WITHIN WORLDS'

It's true! The original classic episodes of "THE BIG PICTURE" are now coming to The MovieBob YouTube Channel in new HD(ish) upscaled format for posterity and your linking convenience. Are they old? You bet! Problematic? Sometimes! Do I agree with every opinion a decade later? Hell no! But this is some of the content that shaped the following, fandom and online-identity that helped make this channel what it is today, and now you'll be able to see (almost) all of it together. I'll be posting at (hopefully) a rate of 1 episode a day until we're all caught up, so enjoy a BIG drop of new/old content - "and that's the Big Picture!"

***

The following episode of The Big Picture was produced in 2013 for The Escapist; and reflects the audio, video and overall production quality required of the site and asked of the producer at the time. It has bee upscaled and re-rendered to a more modern standard to the best of the producers' capability as of 2020.

Additionally, the episodes presented as part of "Big Picture: Classic" are all products of their moments in time, most produced on short notice in reaction to then-recent events. As such, many jokes, references, opinions and even entire episodes may no longer reflect the current views of the producer/author/host or read as "appropriate" by current standards.

While some episodes may not be re-uploaded for these reasons - and still others may carry new notations - present-day viewers are respectfully asked to please consider this context when viewing these older, archival episodes.

I remember shortly before this episode originally ran, Susan Arendt (who was Bob's editor at the escapist back in the day) tweeted that the forthcoming episode of the Big Picture was the most mindbending thing she had ever heard of.

She wasn't wrong.

For years and years I had referred to the concept as the "Munchverse" because I had assumed that Munch was the linchpin of the crossovers. But then a few years ago I stumbled on Bob's video and, yes...my mind was indeed blown.

I think vaguely I'd heard of this being how St Elsewhere ended (not a well known show in the UK), but until this moment I had no idea of its ramifications. Amazing, and also hilarious.

Worst still is Red Dwarf directly references the flintstones, meaning that that would leave all of Hanna Barbera cartoons connected. And scooby do has crossed over with even more characters like Batman and the Harlem Globetrotters.

4:43 Which Lurch appeared as a Bat-Climb cameo in the Adam West Batman show, along with Colonel Klink, Jose Jimenez, Sam Stone of Felony Squad and famously the Green Hornet and Kato. There was also a comic book crossover with the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and the Avengers* and recently in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, establishes Batman '66 in the DC multiverse with a lot of other DC TV shows.

*The spy one with Diana Rigg.

this is still one of my favorite things on the internet, and this video, when it originally aired, was how I learned about it (although westfall purists have since disallowed animated shows, which breaks a lot of chains through the simpsons and scooby doo). Thanks for being you Bob, been here since episode 6 of the original youtube series, and not going anywhere

I remember watching this way back in the day and it blew my mind, that was like in my first month of using YouTube.

Wouldn't it make more sense that Tommy was imagining crossovers with his favourite TV shows?

This is one of my favorite episodes of the Big Pictures, cause I just love the fact that people mapped out and found all these connections. The Dragnet connection means it also has Adam-12 and Emergency.

If the Westphall universe includes Doctor Who then that means it includes the MCU as The Doctor is part of the Marvel universe.

Which means it also includes the DC universe as those two have crossed over. Which means it includes the Looney Tunes as Daffy was once a Green Lantern. Which means it also includes Babylon 5 as they make multiple references to Daffy Duck.

Also if it includes the Simpsons, it also includes Stargate SG-1 as thats Jack's favourite show.

This can really get fun.

Someone really needs to buy the rights to Saint Elsewhere so they can make a Multiverse Style Crisis movie. Mind blowing. Also, RIP Dwayne McDuffie.

Dwayne McDuffie was a talented guy. I'm glad I experienced his work.
Continuity is like Canon it is only as good as the Next writer.
