The PT6-67D we have on the 1900 does 3950 ft lbs during takeoff. Of course it uses around 800 lbs of fuel an hour…but man these things are overpowered. Love it!!

Quick question, why aren't they connected to the turbine itself? What benefit does it have over connecting both with a gearbox and potentially gaining more power and possibly quicker thrust response?

As far as I know, geared turbofans are even the holy grail of jet engines

How fuel efficient are they compared to a piston engine ?

Fully charged battery at startup and always--always keep an eye on EGT temp redline and those engines will never have problems, super reliable.

Turboprops are good, but don't forget about high OAT and High elevation airports which makes these engines not reliable at all

that is a jet engine.
it is installed backwards.
the engine is connected to a transmission which then turns the propeller.
the engine air intake is toward the rear and the exhaust duct is toward the front.
normal jet engines are intake on the front and exhaust to the rear.

One fact... they are reversed engines meaning the cycle starts at the back and makes its way to the front of the engine.

Turboprops aren’t the best but they are far superior to other propeller driven aircraft. They have nothing on modern jets in terms of reliability and power etc.

I don't think that engine even has a propeller gearbox that's why it's called a free turbine unlike a Garrett 331, but I could be wrong I just don't ever have ever seen a gearbox on a PT6
