The Europeans built roads to gain access to the sea or river in order to serve their economic activities. It makes economal sense to build the roads were major commercial towns and resorts are situated.

Yes. When in Jamaica I use the toll roads daily. If its a choice between the old roads and the tolls? Tolls 100%.

Building the Highways are really great. The cross Island roads now need to be upgraded to match and feed these new highways. Recently it was said that the tourist industry will need near 50, 000 workers to meet the increase in the industry. White it is all good and proper to develop the human capitol to meet and exceed the demands for hotel workers, infrastructural developments need to be on par as well. For example, upgrading of cross Island roads to first world standards could be pivotal for the movement of these workers from South of the Island to the North. Roads such as Williamsfield to Discovery Bay through Spaulding and Cave valley on through Alexandria and Browns Town. Also, the extension/continuation of the upgraded road at Haddo/Mackfield towards Montpellier and Anchovy right into Montego Bay. This would cut traveling time by almost half and spread the areas from which Hotel and other skilled workers are drawn from. Plus the movement of goods and people would be made easier and safer.

I’ve heard that between tourism and remittances are the biggest industries in JA. As a Jamaican that is not too familiar with Jamaican roadways I would like to see road signs even though I’ve heard that people are stealing the street signs.

It's funny how the news reporting doesn't tell you. what the difference is with
Other countries like Dominica with tourists consumption of local products compared to Jamaica.
