I was recently invited on BBC Radio Norfolk to talk about a recent news story to do with a mystery cruise with Fred Olsen.

Would you take a mystery cruise? Let me know in the comments!

*** The Story ***

"Disgruntled cruise ship passengers staged a ‘mutiny’ after their mystery voyage ended up stopping at Great Yarmouth and a Dutch port likened to a council estate. Some travellers refused to even step off the Balmoral ship after forking out up to £1,400 for an 11-night stay. According to The Sun, others got into heated rows with staff aboard the 710-room vessel about the lacklustre itinerary. One guest told the paper: ‘It’s mutiny on here.’ Having set off from Newcastle, many of the guests expecting to find ‘hidden gems’ were underwhelmed when the liner docked for its first stop in Norfolk – nothing more than a very expensive lift home for some."

What is a Mystery Cruise?

A mystery cruise is a cruise where the passengers don't know which ports will be stopped at during the cruise. The cruise has a fixed start and endpoint and passengers know how long the cruise will last. Details of the cruises itinerary are revealed to guests day by day.

A number of cruise lines provide mystery cruises and the amount to which the itinerary is a 'mystery' varies. On some mystery cruises, passengers may have a rough idea of where the cruise is going and on others, they have no idea.

Well said Emma, Its appears to be a small group of friends who complained via the media that Great Yarmouth wasn't great and there was no clogs and windmills in Ijmuiden.

It seems to me that some people try extremely hard to FIND something to complain about. If they put the same amount of effort into enjoying themselves & being better human beings, the world would be a better & far happier place.
Love the vlogs Emma, Thank you.

I have found your radio interview about Mystery Cruises and it's very funny, really. I can hear you laughing in the background. Great Yarmouth and Ijmuiden anyway would be something for me, I think. I've only made it to Spalding so far. 🤣🤣👍

I must admit I loved this one

For you is hard to imagine why but when I was learning English I did it at British Council and they use a lot of audio clips from BBC, those broadcast have an specific tone and rhythm and are perfect for developing listening skills.

Listening that voice and the way they asked you question bring me back in time to my classes / test 🥲🙂

This. This is it. It won't get better than this. This is pure perfection.

Emma I'm serious, you have an amazing voice. I think this has been the most exciting 8 minutes and 11 seconds of my day! It's strange hearing you in the radio style type of audio! Every British radio should invite you! If they don't, I will..! I love your little laugh in the background, I was here laughing with you! Your last video, and this audio clip made me so happy. I was gonna say 'I'll add watching your videos to my daily routine', but I would be lying, because they already are a part of my daily routine! 😍💙😂

I picked up on this story after coming back from the Fjords. From afar it looks like they got off on the wrong foot with only two hours at the first stop. If you follow that up by opening your curtains after docking at an industrial port even if Amsterdam is nearby that wouldn't class as a hidden gem. Then I believe they went to Dunkirk where there were problems with local authorities and camp sites. It just didn't start well, some of us just get on with it, others are more likely to get agitated.
