The thing is that people think both styles are very alike, but the reality is that they aren't
I lived in korea for 8 years, and I got to see up close and in detail that WT although having the same name of Taekwondo, is actually a completely different art.
Yes, they have some similar kicks, and both styles are compatible with each other, but that's all at a superficial glance. technically, they are actually extremely different. like judo and bjj.

Great vid! Hello from Canada. The under hook during the clinch with Jade Jones was a common tactic used in closed range. Noticed her arms were extended and it wasn’t there to grab the opponent. It was there to stop the opponent’s crescent kick around the shoulder. The arms in the under position can control the opponent‘a arm as the kick comes up. This type of crescent kicks usually comes in extreme closed range. Love this channel. 👍👊

All in all it is not necessary and sad to have the ITF and WT. Taekwondo would be much more famous if WT and ITF were a olympic association together. It's a shame, that the politics can’t find a way to bring them together, so that we could be all together one big Taekwondo family. #OneWorldOneTaekwondo

Very good analysis. Some of the techniques used to qualify Mr. Edwards for the Olympics was techniques taken from ITF. We have also used techniques from WT in ITF sparring and was also very successful.

Go back 10-15 years the lead leg was seldom used in WT. Now that is their approach.
The lead leg side kick/cut kick, turning kick/round kick was always an ITF trait.

In WT you are allowed to push but not hold. Because there's no holding allowed, the Under hook is used to pretend you are not holding.

Another quite major difference that people tend not to bring up is the martial art side of taekwondo, ITF was created directly by the founder of taekwondo in 1955 where a huge source of inspiration was shotokan karate, which you can clearly see in sparring and competition, hence the rule sets are still to this day remotely similar. ITF puts an equally large section of the martial art on self defence, tradition, and the sport side, which is also a factor why there isn't any new techniques after 6th dan.

WTF was created in 1973 by the korean government against the founders wishes. As of today it has left almost everything that was "taekwondo" and could practically be called something else, as the resemblences between the 2 are virtually none, apart from minor things here and there.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on WT from an IFT viewpoint, but ...come on guys, there are thousands of fantastic clips available to emphasise your points. Playing the same ones over and over again until I lost count nearly made me stop watching. Just show a shot a couple of times and maybe again in slo-mo.
You also mentioned that Jade Jones’ style seemingly avoided throwing head-shots. Really? Her nickname is “ The Headhunter” for a reason you know !

Sir,
Audio needs some work. One minute I’ll hear you talking fine, the next a clip pops up and blasts my ears off, and following up is you talking again and I can’t hear you. Just my point of view. Taekwon
