"Dollar Tree CEO Michael Witynski—who raked in around $11 million in total compensation last year—announced Tuesday that his company is raising prices to $1.25 at stores across the United States, pointing to the current "inflationary environment.”

But observers weren't buying Witynski's explanation for the imminent price hike, which was publicized as Dollar Tree reported $216.8 million in net profits for the third quarter of 2021. The 25% price increase is expected to take effect at Dollar Tree stores nationwide in early 2022."

There should be a law that if businesses have increased profits they should be required to increase employee pay substantially.

Cut back on spending and keep the money in your pockets and watch how fast prices start to drop.

Dollar Tree made $1.23B in profits THIS year and paid thir CEO over $10M... meanwhile their avg employee earns less than $9/hr and over 7400 rely on social service programs funded by the government.

They can raise employee wages over $18/hr and still make over $1B in profits this year.

That's a 25% price increase. We do not have inflation out that level. A $0.05 increase would have been more in line with was actually going on. This is just a money grab and it's disgusting.

If they were raising prices to pay for more employees “fine”, but their not. All the Dollar Tree’s in my area run their store’s with minimal employees, long lines, product still boxes all over the store causing a fire hazard. One store near me has bird’s flying around inside releasing feces over everything, because they don’t have enough staff to get them out. I stopped going to that location, . Dollar Tree is a “SHYT SHOW” of a company

This company is taking advantage of its employees. The employees are grossly under paid. The company is extremely profitable. And prices are rising. All of these can happen at the same time. Inflation is going to damage the economy.

I always thought the argument was, "If we pay workers more, we will have to raise prices." But, what we're seeing is, "No, we're not going to pay workers more - but, we're still going to raise prices."

My wife was a teacher and regularly used dollar tree to get gifts for students. She would go in and spend $125+ out of pocket for 25 kids.

It adds up fast

25¢ makes a hell of a difference when it comes to gas, so why should it be different for anything else consumers purchase?

They're not raising prices because they HAVE to. They're doing it because they WANT to. I guarantee that even if the "inflation" is taken care of, they won't lower prices back to what they should be.

it really doesn't seem that much on the surface but if you consider the percentage increase, it's an absurd price hike

How about Walmart. Their prices are skyrocketing. The carts are shit. The shelves are empty. The customer's have to check out their own groceries while the employees stand around talking. I'm not only doing their job, the taxes I pay at my actual job are subsidizing their cost of living while Walmart is receiving millions in "rebates" (tax payer dollars) for things like accepting the very food stamps my tax dollar provides. As citizen's of this country, we need to stop voting for representatives that accept money from big corporations, super packs, etc. Oh, and Walmart is one of those companies that doesn't pay any taxes. People need to pay attention.

For about the last year and a half i've been going in the local Goodwill store and soon they'er going to have to change their name to antiques and collectibles according to their prices it's really insane when you stop to think that they are selling items that they had donated to them for free i recently saw a record album that had a 100 dollar price tag on it i asked the manager was it a mistake and she told me it was not

These companies will raise their prices but not employees pay. Pathetic!!!!

And our Dollar Trees won't give full time work because they might have to provide health insurance. It's really difficult to find a full-time job. And yes, the wages suck.

They call it the Dollar Tree, but I call it the $7.95 Tree

OMG. This story makes me so upset. Do the rich shop at dollar stores? NO. A lot of their stuff is CRAP but we buy it because we don't have the money for better stuff. The CEO made over 10 MILLION?!?!? The people that work there barely can afford to shop there and they are raising prices, basically to make more money for themselves off the paycheques of the poor. So infuriating, and I'm disgusted with their greed. I hate the way the world works.

Fine, raise the price by $25 cents, as long as they put it in the employee's pockets, and not the CEO's greedy pockets!!!!
