How to upgrade Zabbix Monitoring Server from 2.4 to 3.0 (Step by Step guide)

Hello Youtube, in this video I am going to show you how you can upgrade your Zabbix Monitoring Server from 2.4 to 3.0 version. Please note that there are some prerequisites that you need to verify before you proceed:

1. Your PHP version should be at least PHP 5.4.x (Zabbix prerequisite)

Other prerequisites are recommendations from me:

2. Backup your server.

3. Backup your configuration files.

4. Upgrade the server in Lab environment first.

If you are running in a virtual environment, this can be a lot more straightforward. Install Zabbix in a new VM (or use the appliance for small environments) and make sure it works. The backup the database and config files from the old version. Stop services on new, copy the config files over the defaults, restore the backup database over the default database. Start Zabbix services and wait for the upgrade to complete. Log in, make sure everything is OK, then swap the TCP config to match the old system, shutdown the old, and restart the new. That way you can avoid chasing down dependencies during the upgrade.

To backup your /usr/share/doc/zabbix-* at 10:23 please use the "-r" option to include the subdirectories.

cp: omitting directory 'directory' warns you that the mentioned directory is not copied.

Cheers, helped me get from 2.4 to 3.2
Had to go 2.4 to 3.0 then to 3.2 as we got duplicate key errors going direct.
Painful but it's over.
