Hello and welcome to my channel 👋

are travelling around Europe, we try to explore the local cuisine of every country we visit. At the moment we are in Greece. The food variety in Greece is so big. There is traditional food served in Taverna’s and grilled food which is more like fast food eaten on the go.
I’m going to do a little series to show the places we visit and the foods we try. Hope you enjoy it 😊

The flight from Heraklion to Athens took us 50min and it was €160 for two of us with Sky Express Airlines

The first place we visited in Athens was called Λόντζα της Γειτονιάς. They serve really great food and the atmosphere there is nice and cosy. If you would like to visit this place you can find their location here

On Sunday we went to watch the official Evzones, a special unit of the Greek military changing guards ceremony.

The ceremony took place at The Monument to the Unknown Soldier built between 1930 & 1932 located in Syntagma Square in Athens. It was erected to honor the fallen soldiers of the Greek Wars of Independence and all unknown soldiers who have given their lives for Greece.

The monument consists of a tomb containing the remains of an unknown soldier, surrounded by a garden and guarded by the Evzones, a special unit of the Greek military. The formal version of the guard uniform is white and worn on Sundays and at official occasions. Khaki uniform is worn in summer and navy blue in winter.

The changing of the guard ceremony takes place every hour at the monument and it is a popular tourist attraction in Athens. The Sunday ceremony starts at 11am. Don’t make the same mistake like we did and arrive earlier as the place gets crowded and it his hard to watch if you are out at the back.

After it we went to eat at the place called Karamanlidika. It’s a lovely restaurant which is also a charcuterie. Great menu, delicious food and very fast and polite service. If you would like to visit this place you can find their Google maps location here

At Kostas you have to understand a few things.
First of all you get the bifteki not the kalamaki.
Its a family business and they make them really carefully nicely constructed and that takes time.
The original souvlaki does not have fries in it.
Its as authentic as you can get.

In order to find real good food in Greece you have to ask some locals, preferably middle aged.

Do you know thier shoes have 60 nails in the sole and they stamp the ground to let thier ancestors know that Greece is still alive-and free
And the all white outfit called a fustenella has 400 pleats 1 for each year of the Ottoman occupation
