Can Artificial Photosynthesis Save The Planet?

Plants generate energy from the sun through photosynthesis. Now, researchers have created an ARTIFICIAL photosynthesis process that uses nanotechnology and biology to capture carbon before it can be emitted into the atmosphere. And while plants use this process to turn carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates, the artificial method can use it to build acetate. From there, this system could be used to make plastics or (maybe) fuel!

*I hope the future will be as amazing as I imagine it to be and I hope that we don't end up living on a dying planet*

Not only is photosynthesis the only process for creating energy that does not create heat, it is also the most efficient. Good video.

Hey! I've been thinking about this exact thing, didn't know the technology was around!!! This is cool

Does this synthetic fuel made from acetate generate smog when it's burned? Cutting greenhouse emissions is good, but reducing smog as well would be better.

But how does this really differ from the fermentation of glucose using yeast into ethanol? A biofuel which is carbon neutral and renewable

potato
im serious is there any way to tap into the electricity that life can produce (without getting all dark and stuff) i think i remember reading about lemmon batteries or something and everyone knows about the famous potato clock

I hope this new fuel source becomes reliable. Truly, this "win-win" scenario will make advancements to our everyday fuel sources.

"... and make a renewable oil source, " - There goes the Fallout series out the window now since the war was based on Oil.

Future of energy? IMO, Nuclear Fusion (yes fusion, not fission). If we ever get to master that, I believe that all other sources of energy will be rendered obsolete. Until then however, there is no clean cut answer. Solar energy is not ideal for every case, together with everything else we currently know of.

As we are right now, I believe the future of energy lies in mass diversification options. Then one day, a true winner may arise.

I'm still an undergrad in physics, but if we could (eventually) get to the point where we could synthesize large elements using nuclear fusion, then break it down using nuclear fission, we'd be making energy while making fuel to make more energy!

I would like to say nuclear fusion but they have been saying they are on the brink of making a self sustaining fusion reactor for something like 30 years. So, at this rate, I really don't know when fusion will actually find widespread practical use as a renewable energy source.

Kinetic energy for me. Cannot beat the simple physics of the ball bearing and oil.

nope.. i did my phd on this and i can say that nope it will never work.. i tried for years to increase the electron transfer potensial and just couldnt be done..
