Winston-Salem, City of Arts and Innovation

We call ourselves the City of the Arts and Innovation because the arts and entrepreneurship have been woven into the fabric of life ever since the first Moravian settlers followed the Great Wagon Road to this area, where they made music and pottery as well as beer.

Since 2016, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Art Commission has put art front and center, on parks, libraries and our downtown streets.

The first local arts council was founded here in 1949. You’ll find a vibrant community of working artists, art galleries and museums, a biotech park and a lively Arts District. We’re home to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, the Winston-Salem Symphony and the National Black Theatre Festival.

In Winston-Salem, we make living well an art form.
