That’s what I like to call a good example of marketing, they make people believe that they need something just to make a sale. Always research what you’re feeding your piggies, just because it has a Guinea pig picture on it doesn’t mean that they should be eating it! Great video 💞

I bought oats, and spread it outside and when it grew and was fresh I gave them that. And they loved it.

As a treat, I like to give them a brand called Rosewood Naturals, the forage mix. They love it. I give them each a bit a couple times a week. I used to order it online, but now my local Wal-Mart has started carrying it, and at only about $3.50/bag. The brand also makes little "herb filled cushions" treats which i give maybe once a week, and treat sticks which I stay away from.

Amen to that!
And two of the worst treats are those sticks that purely consist of seeds and nuts, glued together with honey and "can contain traces of egg" and, of course, the yogurt drops. And people don't seem to get it. The guy who runs one of the biggest German guinea pig YouTube channels talks about what guinea pigs really need to eat all the time and people still send him this crap.

Thanks Scotty...I love the idea of you guys going over all products for good and bad items. If you don’t mind me adding my link. I have a group on FB “ this little piggy advice and support “ it’s still a small group but I too work with a rescue.. Wee Companions small animal rescue in San Diego. I own 7 of my own and foster and volunteer. I’m always available for questions or concerns. I’ve learned a lot over the 5 years of piggys taking over my house lol they are my fur babies :)

Good point! I love 1 petshop, the ppl put the pets as number 1 priority. However, they do sell some crappy treats and food for smaller animals. I used to buy them but after researching, I stick to natural food. It's channels like yours and skinnypigs1 that helped me make informed decisions!!!

Another well timed video. I think only about 20% tops of the food and treats I've seen are vaguely decent. The rest is pure fluff and marketing. I love the fact the best treat is a vegetable. And there is a cornucopia of delights to be had there (bar the ones one the no go list). And from my experience they prefer them, like scottys cardboard box house trumping anything else I've made or bought. Its simple. Keep it natural.

Hi Scotty. What about the Oxbow Vitamin C treats?

If I want to treat my piggies I load extra huge piles of hay in their enclosure for a hay, play day= very excited happy pigs.

My 12 piggies get Oxbow cranberry treats (one each) before bed. Each day they get cucumber, baby carrots(not more than 2) and sugar snap peas which they love. I also have Sherwood urinary cranberry supplement, and liquid syringe Childlife vitamin C. Hay is third cut from Small Pet Select and Oxbow grass hay. Pellets, a mixture of Sherwood and Oxbow Naturals.

What about dehydrated fruit like apple, mango, etc. What you said is all I feed my piggies, but are the dehydrated treats ok once in a while? Thanks Scotty, love watching you and your babies!!!

I think oat sprays are great, my piggies love them as a snack. The popcorn I don't buy or seeds or nuts really, but the oat sprays are just like oats or oat hay because I buy fidget sticks which is rolled oat hay and that's the same thing. Also, guinea pigs are only supposed to have one eighth to one quarter cup of pellets daily, and fresh veggies are 15 to 20% of the diet, whereas pellets are about one tenth. I do agree however that those seed mix treats with nuts are for hamsters and gerbils, but they just lump guinea pigs into the mix also. That's bad, because even though they're not going to kill or poison a piggy, they're not useful and not part of their diet.

Hey Scotty! Have you ever tried pea flakes as treats for your piggies? I hear people in the UK raving about them and I've seen a ton of people say they make homemade pea flakes. But I haven't tried it with my piggies!! My guys also love Oxbow's Vitamin C cookies as treats too.

Thanks Scotty great reminder. What do you think about wood sticks for piggies to nibble on?

Awesome video Scotty, you did a great job explaining why certain treats are not good for them. I think mostly everything that Brown's products makes is unhealthy for Guinea Pigs, So not a product I would recommend. :) Great job! :D
