Mayumi asks Kei to hang out and he agrees. She admits to him that she was always curious about the relationship between Kei and Kenji and how it even started in the first place.

Kei explains that he met Kenji for the first time in middle school but befriended him only when they were at hope's peak. Upon meeting him he always had a strange look. It was devastating to look at. He immediately recognized and empathized with that feeling of emptiness in Kenji's eyes after all Kei used to feel that way too. And so he went on and showed off one of his inventions to cheer him up somehow. The second time they met again was Hope's Peak. Kei hates physical activity so much that he tends to skip the lessons and hide. He thought he found a quiet spot that no one frequents but surprise Kenji was there. When Kei has P.E, he has a free period and so he searches for a quiet place to study which happens to be Kei’s hideout. Exhilarated by the discovery he immediately started to talk to Kenji. He didn’t want him to have that sad look again and so he tried his best to be there for him. From meeting up only on those hours they went to talk to each other between breaks and sometimes outside of school.

Kei recalls all of this with a sad smile. Mayumi feels bad for bringing it up but Kei tells them that it’s fine and that the past is the past.

They had a good time regardless.
