Every direction is a new direction when it comes to David Byrne's music. That's part of the appeal of it, really; how one structural base can be interpreted in so many divergent, unique, and fascinating ways. From the Naked-esque mix of post-punk/new wave and Latin funk on Uh-Oh, to the alternative rock of the 1994 self-titled album, to the art pop of Everything That Happens will Happen Today and American Utopia, it's difficult to pigeonhole David Byrne's music to a single sound, and that gives it a unique sense of charm that lets it stand on its own from the (also amazing) work of Talking Heads.

am a huge music listener. since i was a kid. lots of indipendent rock completely different styles tons of metal punk hard rock reggae old school hip hop but among the classics Talking Heads and David Byrne will always have a special place. i had never heard this solo lp. unfortunately the vinyl is around 30 euro a bit too much for a double vinyl anyway

My favorite song from Grown Backwards is The Other Side Of This Life. Nothing captures more endearingly the irony of American Christianity's desire to live forever whilst avoiding Heaven all at the same time. Empire is a close second, mind you...
