Regardless of if it's a seal or sea lion, don't just come up from behind and touch them. Don't approach any wild pinniped, only engage if they come up to you and literally hug you, like the seal at the start.

My friend was scuba diving in a murky kelp forest when an unknown creature grabbed one of his flippers and dragged him for about the length of an average swimming pool before it released him close to the surface. When he popped his head up, close to a heart attack because of the area's high great white population, his assailant also 😅 popped up: It was a large seal, looking VERY pleased with itself. Apparently this particular seal was infamous for taking unsuspecting divers on high speed "rides".
