Elizabeth Hand & Hannah Pittard: 2016 National Book Festival

Elizabeth Hand presents "Hard Light" and Hannah Pittard presents "Listen to Me" in a panel discussion on suspense thrillers with Maureen Corrigan from NPR at the 2016 Library of Congress Book Festival in Washington, D.C.

Speaker Biography: Elizabeth Hand is a best-selling author known for her Cass Neary crime novel series. She has received many honors, including a Mythopoeic Award, a Tiptree Award, four World Fantasy Awards, two Nebula Awards, two Shirley Jackson Awards and three International Horror Guild Awards. Hand is also a critic and book reviewer, and her work has appeared in various publications including the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Salon, the Village Voice and the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. She has written numerous novelizations of films, including Terry Gilliam's "Twelve Monkeys," and a popular series of Star Wars children's books. Hand's published books include "Generation Loss," "Available Dark," "Wylding Hall," "Waking the Moon," "Mortal Love" and "The Maiden Flight of McCauley's Bellerophon." Her latest Cass Neary novel is "Hard Light". Hand divides her time between Maine and North London.

Speaker Biography: Hannah Pittard is a novelist and teaches English at the University of Kentucky. Her published books include "The Fate Will Find Their Way" and "Reunion." Pittard has received an Amanda Davis Highwire Fiction Award, is a MacDowell Colony Fellow and works as a consulting editor for Narrative Magazine. Her stories have appeared in publications such as The American Scholar and McSweeney's. Pittard's new novel, "Listen to Me" , is a suspenseful exploration of a stressed marriage during a road trip gone awry as college professor Mark and his recently mugged wife, Maggie, a veterinarian, travel from Chicago to the East Coast home of Mark's family.
