The Mills Sisters - Thursday Island Melody. (1993)

"The Mills Sisters", Rita and twins Cessa and Ina Mills recorded "Thursday Island Melody" for their album "Frangipani Land" released in 1993 on the Newmarket label ( NEW 1022.2 ). The sisters who were from the island paradise of Thursday Island (TI) in the Torres Strait, were well known locally and had been singing for a number years touring both locally and Internationally. Cessa and Ina Mills retired from performing in the late 1990's whilst the their sister Rita continued a solo career until her death in 2004. It is said that no one knew where TI was until the Mills Sisters hit the world stage having been the opening act for International stars such as Charley Pride and Tina Turner.

The song "Thursday Island Melody" was written by well known Byron Bay muscians and local identities, Mookx Hanley and Shanto Oliver, both of whom have sadly recently passed away. Mookx Hanley had previously recorded this song.
