Pope Visits Rome’s Regina Coeli prison on Holy Thursday

On Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025, Pope Francis visited Rome's Regina Coeli Prison. Welcomed by Director Claudia Clementi and staff, he met with approximately 70 inmates of diverse nationalities who participate in the prison's religious activities. After the director expressed gratitude for his visit, Pope Francis conveyed his wish to be with the inmates, stating he annually performs the foot washing ritual, but this year, due to limitations, he could only offer his prayers for them and their families. Following a prayer, the Pope individually greeted the inmates in the rotunda before leading them in the Our Father and imparting his blessing. The 30-minute visit concluded with his departure.
